I think management nudged them away from participating.
Mesar won't make the team but smartly his focus is to make a great impression at training camp.
Which is unfortunate, he should be playing in the world juniors this year

Why would they prevent him but let Roy go? I'm pretty sure Mesar doesn't want to risk an injury for a team that has very little chance to win anyway.

I agree that Slaf should miss it since he has good chances of making the NHL but Mesar? he belongs in the CHL so he should be playing in that tournament

Happy to see Roy on the first line

It may be more the player than anything else. Roy may want to go because he'll be on a good team with a high chance of bringing home a medal. Mesar is not in the same situation, especially if Slaf is not going.

One is a first rounder while the other was picked 150th overall.
Neither make the team but one is a Kent pick and the other isn't

I really hope that Kent isn't so small minded as to favour his picks.

He isn't.

The short answer is Roy is going back to the Q regardless of what happens.

Mesar has the AHL as an option and it's clear that the Hughes group didn't want any players that could be in Laval taking part in this rescheduled WJC.

They didn't stop anyone either they gave their preference but left it up to the player.

Many players drafted in the first round this year aren’t there. It’s more about focusing on development and training after missing a lot of the offseason with the combine, the draft and then dev camp… then they gonna have their first nhl camp and need to be ready.
Guys like Roy had a longer offseason to rest, train, and already lived a nhl camp before.
McTavish had an incredibly heavy schedule this year and played on so many teams (WJC, ohl champion, memorial cup, olympics) and should be in the NHL upcoming season… he is the exception as he shouldn’t be there IMHO. Maybe he insisted.

What makes you think they prevented him but let Roy go? They can't actually do that. It was reported that Montreal preferred he not to attend. For all we know, Montreal didn't want Roy to attend and he did anyways.
