Officially out for two weeks. Nobody should get their hopes up, if he doesn't miss at least two months that will be a miracle.

Smith says Norris was emotional after the game. Suffered the shoulder injury when his stick collided with the other player in the faceoff circle.

What the .... ?
Happens all the time with Separated/Dislocated shoulders, can be something as simple as putting on a sweater (can attest to this personally).

They’re extremely, extremely easy to re-injure after the initial injury.

I had a buddy whose shoulder would come out & I would help him put it back in, once it was back in he was fine again for quite a while. I don't think he ever had surgery on it either.

Quite long term apparently. He'd be lucky to play again this year and will likely have to wait until next season. Harsh, harsh stuff for him and us.

Not many sport surgeries that recovery is that long. There's almost 6 months left in the regular season. 7-8 months if you count a playoff run.

I had a bad shoulder injury that I tried to play through as a teenager. I couldn't move my arm for like 2 weeks. Bruised. Swollen. Even went into my neck. Never got it checked out. I'm fine and have never had issues since.

Hoping it's something like that as opposed to structural damage but I feel he would know from experience and he wasn't happy.

Clearly there was some weakness in that shoulder already if it popped from a faceoff. Understand there's some force from the two sticks colliding but that shouldn't be the type of play that gets you injured if your shoulder is in top shape.

As others have said I assume he misses similar time to last season which was 5-6 weeks ?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.

Do players get injured much taking faceoffs?
I haven't heard of it.

Well, except for Pinto last year.

Maybe no more faceoff for him in the future.
Well presumably maybe for this yr, too bad too he was really getting good at faceoffs but luckily this yr Ott has some other guys they can depend on for faceoffs. Giroux could take them for him as Tkachuk does some times while Norris can still play the C position just not take faceoffs for a while.

My guess is "Waiting on MRI" means they're waiting hear back from the doctor Norris used for his previous shoulder surgery.

I remember last season, they were consulting with that doctor to figure out what to do with his injury. "Two weeks" is probably just a placeholder number DJ threw out there to say he's not "day-to-day" until Norris and his doctor come up with a plan of action. Considering he's re-injured that shoulder twice since the surgery, with this time being a non-contact injury, I'd be shocked if he doesn't get surgery on it again.

Hope he isnt put back on the ice before he's actually ready. I don't want another Pinto situation where he's back playing in less than 3 weeks and then is just immediately injured again for the season. Would rather err on the side of extreme caution this time since its a reoccurring shoulder injury. The team can wait 12+ weeks for Norris if they need. If we lose games because our best players are hurt thats a much easier pill to swallow than watching guys get rushed back to just get injured again.

Get better soon Josh.

If it is a shoulder thing, we've got him for 8 years, take whatever procedures/time is needed to minimize future recurrences is my vote. Norris will be a huge part of this team for the better part of the next decade.

Nice to have some depth, for now at least.

Last year I dislocated my arm from a throw-in during soccer. I dislocated it again 2 times the following two days taking my shirt off (stupid doctor didn't properly diagnose me).

If there is bruising, that means the ligaments are torn or really bad stretched (which is why he was able to still flail his arms around, probably popped it back after slight dislocation) and he needs surgery or intensive physio and holds off surgery in off-season(risky). Mine never tore and they're just stretched (likely need surgery too anyway because can lead to bad arthritis--even if not professional athlete) I have no idea how it will only be 2 weeks for someone like him.

I am expecting gone for rest of the season or 6 months at least. Which is devastating news.

Before I convinced a surgeon to operate on me, I would sneeze and my shoulder would pop out, or I'd hold the door open behind me walking into a shopping centre, pop it goes. Another time after taking 2 months off from playing beer league hockey from having my should come out during a game, it came out again when I tried to put on my jersey before the game. Luckily, the whole shoulder area was pretty used to it and the pain wasn't that bad after a day or two.

I'm not sure exactly what work he had done on his shoulder last year but the fact that it just popped out so easily at a the face-off circle means it wasn't enough, and if his labrum is torn then he absolutely needs to get proper surgery done and none of this 2 weeks to let it heal stuff, the labrum will not heal, it needs to be surgically fixed or it'll just happen again before the season is out.

Another side effect of not getting surgery and just waiting to heal is that you're CONSTANTLY thinking about it, especially after it happens on some nothing play like this. When on the ice, every move you make you think about protecting your shoulder in some way, I'm sure it affects a pro-athletes mental game for sure.

If it’s his shoulder, I’m not optimistic that the injury will heal without surgical intervention.
