That's what worries me, as well. It feels like we're trending towards a bubble team status, which is basically what we had before the tear down. These kids had better have one hell of a lot more potential within them to go beyond what the previous core had....and I'm not convinced they have that in them to do it.
Well I think coaching held us back. Cameron and Boucher we terrible. Also the zibanejad trade was terrible. AND we could sign good defenders to play on pairings 2 and 3.

Wait lost my Point. I think I agree with you.

Turris brassard pageau down the middle with stone Hoffman Ryan MacArthur supporting and karlsson methot and Andy

Vs

Norris stutzle pinto down the middle. With tkatchuk batherson formenton (giroux cross fingers) Connor brown supporting.

Chabot Sanderson zub. Forsberg.

It’s tight. Very tight.

I suspect he gets between 6-7 million. That is likely market value for a player his age and considering the goals he just put up. I have some reservations about going too long term on a guy like Norris...a sentiment that I am sure is shared by others.

His shooting % is 20.35%, For reference, Matthews is 17.24% and Draisaitl is 19.78%. It's more likely he drifts down to 15-16% than stay at near the league leaders in shooting %. 16 of those 35G (nearly half) come on the PP in a situation where he is set up for success. Without the PP running through his shot, Brady is likely the goals leader on this team. Teams are catching on to Norris being the primary threat too.

If he asks for over 7, I wonder how this team will add enough pieces while being cap compliant, considering Stu will command 8+ in 2 years and Sanderson probably 5-8 in 3 years. Losing Murray and Zaitsev contracts would help tremendously.

The story also mentioned a little about the Locker Clear Out day and Pinto...was never given clearance from the surgeon.

Good news is Bath and Chabby going to join Jimmy at the Worlds.

As for Boo Boo thought this was funny, bit of a jab to his fellow journalists:

"Lots of local media types will play a guessing game on what Norris should be paid and will wildly throw out figures with no real clue what they’re talking about. A deal will get done one way or another.

If people didn’t learn that from Tkachuk’s negotiations, they weren’t paying attention."

the player that stirs the drink yet vanishes for the 20 games he didn't have Batherson?

come on man. Drake is just as big as Brady, even better balance and skating, likes hitting as well, better defensively, better shot, better hands, better passing, better hockey sense etc

Sure Brady is better in front of the net and more physicals. But hockey is played over 200 ft and hitting is always good but hockey is fundamentally about goals in vs goals out.

You're sipping the Tkachuk brand name kool aid way too hard.
Hockey is played over 200 ft, but most of the goals scored in the NHL are within a few ft of the crease where Tkachuk scores most of his goals & can be of the most dominant power forwards in the game & he has the size & strength to take all of the punishment in front of the net & hang in there.

Batherson is the best playmaker on this team IMO & Norris has turned into the best goal scorer while Tkachuk is the most dominant & physical player. Stutzle is the most exciting to watch & Formenton & Joseph with their speed are also exciting to watch. C. Brown seems to be the most complete player on the roster fundamentally, he is equally as good defensively as he is offensively & has also become a pretty good playmaker..

Chabot is the best offensive defenceman on the team & Zub is the best defensive defenceman on the team. The best players on this team are contributing to team sucess & given their age should only get better. The team should also continue to get better as they add more & more good young players to this roster. Sanderson & Pinto if they both stay healthy should really help this team get to another level. There is a lot to look forward to & be hopeful for with this team, I think they are just at the beginning of what could be a playoff bound team soon. They need to fix their goal differential & reduce their shots against & their goals against next season, it's not the offence that needs work IMO it's the defence.

I'd be shocked at 6 something.

over 7 for 6 or more years.,
Yea in the 6 would be a miracle. Score 35 goals in 66 games.. Guy is pacing over 40 goals.

I see him getting 7.85M x 6 years and honestly he could get more than that. Had a much better season than Brady did in his contract year and plays the more important position. If he really wants to push it he could get Brady money with that production level.

Would be interesting to see the comparables for centers scoring 35+ off their ELC. Centers are hard to get, nevermind ones that can score like this.

Norris was top 10 in the NHL in goals/gp. That will get you paid.

Guys, if he gets under 8 M$, he's giving us a friendly deal.

U-23 players who have scored more than 35 goals in a season since Crosby (2005-06)

Alexander Ovechkin : 3 times
Steven Stamkos : 3 times
Sidney Crosby : 3 times
Auston Matthews : 3 times
Patrik Laine : 2 times
Connor McDavid : 2 times
Tyler Seguin : 2 times
Evgeni Malkin : 1 time
Ilya Kovalchuk : 1 time
Eric Staal : 1 time
Thomas Vanek : 1 time
Brayden Point : 1 time
Jason Robertson : 1 time
Alex DeBrincat : 1 time
Nathan MacKinnon : 1 time
David Pastrnak : 1 time
Alexander Semin : 1 time
Sebastian Aho : 1 time
Phil Kessel : 1 time

The worst players here are Thomas Vanek and Alex Semin lol

Josh Norris just scored 35 goals in 66 games, 43 goals pace.

So if he never got injured and scored at the same place in the 16 missing games, that would have been the 13th best goals scoring season among U-23 players since 2005-06

Mendes used Connor as a comparable in an article recently and I thought it was a good one. Connor got 7.1 x 7 years, add the fact that Norris is a centre and more complete player and I suspect he gets closer to 8 mil.

Connor signed just before the 2019-20 season. Connor had these 2 seasons until then :

76 GP 31 G 26 A 57 Pts
82 GP 34 G 32 A 66 Pts

Norris has :

56 GP 17 G 18 A 35 Pts
66 GP 35 G 20 A 55 Pts

Paced to the same number of games as Connor :

76 GP 23 G 25 A 48 Pts
82 GP 43 G 25 A 68 Pts

Not a bad comparable but like you said, Norris is a center. The cap will also resume to rise again

Yup, we’re probably lucky if he signs for under 8 mil. 7.5-8.5 mil is the range I see depending on what term he gets.

I wonder if Norris is a good candidate for a bridge contract. I had been consistently underestimating him but those goal scoring totals are impressive. But its still possible after a couple of years he could level off at a $6.x mil player. Or he may get the $8mil some are willing to pay him now for 8 years. But a bridge seems a safe risk, no? Cap will be relatively flat for a while yet i think.

Same agent as Brady. He will come in under Brady’s number. I’ll stick with 7.5 x 7. I’m sure the agent told the org during Brady negotiations that Brady is the team’s most important player.

Eeeehhhhhhh didn’t look so great when everyone anticipated that pass and shot on the pp.

Doesnt seem like he drives play either at 5v5. Put him with formenton and brown like stutzle was what do you have?

Not worth 8.

Honestly I’m not even sure he’s worth 7. It’s not like he has a shot on ovechkins level where it’s simply unstoppable. Once that play is figured out and defended he’s not hitting 35 again.

6x6.5 is fine. I understand that that’s not how it works though so I’m fine with 6x7

He’ll get paid for his goals not his points, and he’ll get a bump because he’s a centre.

I can see him locked in at between Batherson and Brady.
