We already bought high on Norris with the contract, not sure there will be a sell high moving forward, comparably.

It's basically just sell to get out of the contract at this point, if you aren't fine with a 45/55 point #2/3 C making 8 million.

Getting out of that contract is a win, regardless of what they get back, IMO. The point of selling high left the station when the pen hit the ink.

Poor wording on my part, or more lack of enough words but I don't expect them to be able to sell "high" on Norris (which would have been in 2021-22). The point is more to not sell low. It could still be lower but as of now, his contract would cost to move IMO. Might as well wait and see

For what its worth, I think Norris could get back to 30g form, but not for another season or two. I also don't want to risk him getting injured especially because the capspace he brings back can help us out.

I'd move Norris because I think Pinto and Greig are fine as our 2C and 3C.

I don't think Norris would be overly hard to move. There are some teams who have meddlesome owners that think they can still be competitive.

Calgary for example. Their forward depth is pretty bad and if Edwards wants the Flames to compete, Conroy might try to take a chance on Norris for a combination of spare parts (Mangiapane, Vladar, Kylington, etc.,)

Yeah, if someone is ready to pay full value then I could see the interest in trading him but that doesn't sound realistic as of now. Pierre is not even a GM anymore.

That said, was I assuming anything?
You're assuming his trade value is going to go up in the future, thus making right now a "sell low" moment.

And there's no "full value" to speak of. That's just a different way of you expressing your assumption that his trade value will go up.

That's not guaranteed at all. Dealing him for future considerations right now would be a shrewd move if he's never going to live up to his contract and we could use his cash more effectively in free agency.

It's called opportunity cost.

ok so if it's because of wording, I re-iterated in post #976

But you're right, it doesn't guarantee that his value will go up from now but it's probably at his lowest IMO, which is why the "sell low"... so I meant "hope to sell a bit higher"

All that said, I doubt they'd trade him for FCs right now, unless they really think he won't improve his game (his offense because his defense is already coming back)

Yeah I'm generally on the fence.

If they deal him I'll understand the gamble. If they don't I'll continue to root for him. He's a good player, I just hope he gets back to his old trajectory and earns that contract or close to it.

And sorry if my last few posts were a bit dickish. Don't men to come off like an asshole or somebody who's just trying to shit on Norris. I do like him.

I didn’t want to give Norris that contract. And I ripped him on return from injury.

But I think he’s actually looked good last 4/5 weeks. Has gone cold but his skating way better and more engaged

His skating is not the issue, but I'm convinced he's not healthy yet and playing through pain. There's no other explanation as to why he can't take a pass on his stick without the puck bouncing away from him as if he took an electroshock.

The physical healing is sometimes easier than the mental return to play because the bone may heal and the tear may be fixed, but the mind does not change as readily.

4 points in his last 7 games, 1 Power play point in his last 15 games.

I expect him to have a strong game tonight against the Leafs. The break should help him, and the team needs him going for long term success.

There's up years and down years. Norris is having a down year (understandable considering his injury). But the thing I like about Norris is that even when he's not putting up points, he's still contributing. He's the opposite of a floater. He's a hard worker; fast, physical, good on the faceoff and good defensively.

Is he overpaid? Yes.. but he's still a valuable asset. And hopefully he puts together a good year next season and gets back to 30 goals.

just looking at the stats and players around him with the same shooting % which is a career low for Josh at. 12.9% - Evander Kane, Brayden Schenn, Seth Jarvis, Cole Perfetti.

hes Doing fine, just don’t notice him as much as we did. Especially on the PP he has been very quiet

How did he make that 1 touch pass to Brady last game? Wish we could see stuff like that from him on a regular

Very nice pass to Tkachuk on the PP.

I don't think we can say Norris is currently playing better than Pinto since Pinto's return and I question if he's played better than Greig when Greig played C up in the top 6. Its tough to compare year over year under different circumstances but the fact is we need more from our 2C; we need more from Norris . I think Pinto is slotted properly for now.

Yes... let's trade Norris and steutzle. Josh lost his hands and Tim doesn't know how to play defense. Get out from these contracts while we still can. Yes, josh was our best two way forward a short time ago and yes, Tim can skate fast and make plays out of nothing but with an NHL level coach, with NHL level expectations on both sides of the puck, these two fail. Get a pick for them and move on. After all, we have Pinto who's shown he's a first line center for 10 games and greig has been healthy for 10 games in a row. I've seen enough.
