Josh is one of the better two way Cs in the league ofc he is a good 5 on 5 player.

As for his EV assist totals it's not like he totally sucked at getting his wingers the puck, maybe it was their lack of finish that contributed more?
his offensive game had a lot to be desired. Bath hasn't been good either but I would swap out the center first. We need guys who can carry the puck up. I want my centers to do that

I have always been a Josh fan and always will be.

I think this was a really great player on our team, you couldn't ask more from a player than what he gave. He loved Ottawa and he loved being part of the team and the culture of what we were building here. He was everything you could ask for.

Unfortunately, Josh's injuries became a business decision that became difficult to navigate. He was an asset that was damaged and potentially always One injury away from calling it a career. He had issues with staying healthy and it just seemed like he could never catch a break. It wasn't his conditioning or dedication to the game. He was among the best and most physically fit when training camp started every year. However, that does not always mean that you're going to avoid injuries, maybe it was over training or it wasn't the right training. Go right for him.

The team signed him to a big contract which came with big expectations and he certainly put up pretty good numbers. However, his absence due to his injuries started to hamper those numbers. Just when he seemed to be getting on a roll. The next injury would strike and slow him down. He could never catch a break or things tended to break too easy.

It was certainly a hot debated question of whether we should trade him or not. Trade him well. He still had some value and didn't end up as a ltir or keep them and roll the dice and hope and pray that a major injury wouldn't be around the corner. I don't think the senator's brass wanted to take that gamble. I expect there was more information behind closed doors as to Josh's condition and everything they had dealt with with him that they just didn't feel confident that it was worth the gamble. They felt the gamble of trading him was going to be the right gamble to take.

It certainly was not an easy decision to make as he was locker room favorite and part of the core of the Ottawa Senators. He was the Captain's best friend on and off the ice. He entrenched himself with this team because of who he was and the good-natured person that he was. How about the business decision to move away from him? Had to be made by the senator's brass at the end of the day.

I don't doubt that his popularity among the Senators fans will make this trade one. That'll be debated for a long time. Unfortunately. This is a tough trade to make as people don't like to see their fan favorites go or a good player move on. The one thing we know is that Josh can put up points because he was gifted naturally with scoring goals. He's going to score goals no matter where he is. He was not a perfect player and there is no such thing as a perfect player and we were okay with that. We just weren't okay with his injuries. He is a perimeter goal. Scorer and in the playoffs those type of players can be limited because they're kept to the outside and him getting in for the dirty goals. The ones that usually happen in the playoffs were not his calling card. Well he was second on the team and hits, they were pretty soft hits as much as people would like to call. Call Josh a physical player because of his stats. Just cuz you hid someone doesn't mean it makes an impact. It's physical contact and ties players up but it doesn't deliver the same physicality of some other players. He probably will score more goals then Couzens And maybe have more points also. However, he may not bring some of those intangibles that we are looking for in this trade that are just not part of Josh's toolbox. We were looking for health, consistency, energy, drive, physicality And the ability to score those dirty grinding goals that don't always include the one timer in the slot position on the power play and more five on five offense and creativity.

I hope it works out for both teams and I wish nothing but the best for Josh, it's been a long time since I actually felt sad about a player moving on from the team. Team. This was a genuine nice guy that you would probably let babysit your kids and invite over for Thanksgiving dinner. He will always be a senator to me and unfortunately it's just a business decision at the end of the day and who knows in this business. We may see Josh again, but we were lucky enough to have him around on our team for plenty of games and enjoy his beautiful one-timer goals.
