It's fortunate he is being paid for the whole season then. Not only for those 34 games.
Great. If 27 points in 66 games (33 points in 82 game pace) is good enough for you for $5.5M, I never want to hear you complain of a contract again!

Especially someone like Byron (27 in 82 pace) or or even Drouin (43 in 82 pace). Fantastic!

If Anderson played every game like Game #2 against Vegas and wasn't scoring.... you could almost forgive him. But it's' more like he plays 85% of his games like Game #2 against Toronto.

I hope something woke up in him over the last two games.. because he's been good. Doesn't excuse the trash play for most of the playoffs though, but if we're going to win it all.. he needs to keep playing the way Games #2 and #3 went against Vegas.

I'm not ready to call last game breakout. Sometimes empty netters get a player going. But other times they're followed by a continued dry spell until the next empty netter.
How often will the mishandle the puck for a tap in to an empty net? How often will he get a 2 on 0 when a dman goes for a changexat the wrong time?
Still, I like that he was going to the net all night, and his hitting and physical presence. I'm weary that he'll be able to produce all that much offense over the next 7 years and that he'll hinder whatever line he's on offensively. I have hope he can improve his defensive positioning. One of his strengths seems to be his attitude/character/coachability/work ethic.
I actually think his work ethic is kind of mediocre. He feels a lot like Bourque (hence the title) or Kovalev were. When they were engaged into the game, they were fantastic (to varying degrees, obviously). But when they weren't engaged, they were kind of just there. Floating around.

He was flying out there in the 3rd and overtime. Once he got his confidence he just took off. Wish he could play like that consistently.
That's just it - when he's engaged in the game. He's legit unstoppable. Doesn't mean he's going to score every game... but he's dangerous when he's engaged. The problem is, it happens so rarely and we get the lost on the ice version of Josh Anderson so much more frequently.

I don't agree. Yes, he does play a different style of game. I do see the tunnel vision you're talking about however his tunnel vision leads to Josh crashing the net, making big hits and sometimes giving energy/momentum to his teammates.

I'd take Anderson on my team way before a perimeter player.
It's not that I don't like Anderson at all. It's that at his contract is f***ing atrocious. How someone can come off a 4 point season and get max term at huge money is insane.. with only one good season under their belts.

I don't see Anderson ever reaching that season again, if I'm honest. I hope I'm wrong.

If he was signed @ 3.5-4M, there'd be a lot less complaints with his effort/iq level. I don't want to say it's a lack of effort, because he honestly seems like he tries. But I think it looks as if he's floating or invisible a lot of the time because he has no idea where to be on the ice 95% of the time.

I think the injury status has been mostly speculation, nothing confirmed. However he was wearing a splint or bandage on his left wrist during the post game interview.

Could be something for sure. I used to tap my wrist and ankles before playing any sport though... so it could also be that.

I did some quick looking at some of his old fights. It seems like sometimes he's wearing wrist wraps and sometimes he's not. So I'd wager to say it's not 100%, but it's not bad if he'll still fight sometimes with a wrap on his hand.

If last game jumpstarted his confidence it will be huge for us. The guy is unreal when he gets going.
We really need a good PMD to take advantage of his speed.........he needs a Markov calibre player, to hit him in full stride....
If he can get his scoring touch back, all the while crushing people.....this could be fun!

Haven't watch 100% of our game but his motor seems fine to me. His iq will always be the problem.

I've says vs the jets that controlling their forecheck was key, and boy we did.

Vs vegas I've say anderson was the key. I guess I'm not that stupid after all.

I really think he was nursing something. Comes out like a norse god in game 1 vs. the leafs than disappears until that long layoff after the Jets series and then is pretty much back to his old self.

Sure he's a little one/two dimensional but those dimensions are pretty fantastic. He was in the top 10 goal scorers at one point.

I'm going to be patient on criticizing his contract. It could actually end up being pretty solid. Having a player like that on your roster long term can be huge. Lets see if consistency is really an issue. He's not Drouin frustrating which is a low bar but he's still been a net positive and was a huge part of our most important series up until this one.

Rene Bourque was a better playoff performer. Wish we could trade this abysmal contract for a guy like Max Domi.

I called it. This guy has Rene Bourque smell all over him. And that bonehead decision of giving him that lengthy contract will hurt the Habs long-term. Hopefully, his decline is steady. He is young and can still play tough.

If he doesn't get committed to his defensive side of the game, the dude is a wannabe goalscoring version of Briere. The flash is fun but the goals against suck.

He brings a power element that' disruptive, I like the unique qualities of Anderson. He's not all measured in points for sure. That being said he's a one trick pony. dude cant pass , has no vision and is very stiff with the puck. I still like the pickup for Domi though.

...he needs to learn to actually slow plays down at times...his feet move faster than his thought process and he gets Tunnel Vision...his ability to defend needs some work as well, again gets too focused on what's right in front of him and not what's going on around him...still take this trade all day over Domi...just hope he stays healthy so the term doesn't hurt us down the road...

I like what he brings, and I'm okay with the things that he's not. I just wish he had a C who could control the play and get him the puck when he needs it.

He's a good complementary player that needs to be complemented with another set of skills.

I just wish our GM knew how to build a coherent line up and not constantly triple down on the things that are abundant on his team.

When 10/12 forwards in the lineup are all between good and elite defensively and Caufield is average to mediocreish, it definitely makes it stick out more when Anderson is the only genuinely poor defensive forward on the team.

I like the way he is playing. But he should produce more imo, he has the same numbers than pat Maroon at 900k. We should expect a better production

Hitting everything in sight has not translated into more offence for him, or his line......we should be getting more from Anderson......looking in the mirror time for him and about 10 other forwards on the team....

Anderson is a great complimentary piece. His greatest asset is that he brings an element to a team that’s relatively rare, big body, speed, toughness and a willingness to go to the net.

Regardless of production (which could be better) its an important combination of attributes. He’s consistently one of the few players that are able to actually disrupt the defense of the other teams and create chaos. We need more players like Anderson. Not more guys that are going to take weak shots from far out to try and create a rebound.

I’d be quicker to point the finger at Gallagher who actually brings nothing or Toffoli who’s completely cooled off for our offensive woes before singling out Anderson.

Do I think that contract is a mistake and do I think he has negative hockey IQ and doesn't know how to pass? Sure.

But he busts his ass and when he's healthy no defenseman can keep up with him, and it makes him one of the few guys Tampa can't defend.

Two of the 13 games, he has 4 of 5 of the teams goals. Was a monster in game 1.Has been banging and smashing all playoffs. We finally have a big power forward and lots of posters couldn’t wait to give up on him.

wonder what he would like with a playmaker, keep in mind he played with KK all season which cost him some production for sure

When he busts his ass, even without production, he's really good. Hopefully he can string together a few games of showing up here.
