Great. If 27 points in 66 games (33 points in 82 game pace) is good enough for you for $5.5M, I never want to hear you complain of a contract again! It's fortunate he is being paid for the whole season then. Not only for those 34 games.
Especially someone like Byron (27 in 82 pace) or or even Drouin (43 in 82 pace). Fantastic!
If Anderson played every game like Game #2 against Vegas and wasn't scoring.... you could almost forgive him. But it's' more like he plays 85% of his games like Game #2 against Toronto.
I hope something woke up in him over the last two games.. because he's been good. Doesn't excuse the trash play for most of the playoffs though, but if we're going to win it all.. he needs to keep playing the way Games #2 and #3 went against Vegas.
I actually think his work ethic is kind of mediocre. He feels a lot like Bourque (hence the title) or Kovalev were. When they were engaged into the game, they were fantastic (to varying degrees, obviously). But when they weren't engaged, they were kind of just there. Floating around.I'm not ready to call last game breakout. Sometimes empty netters get a player going. But other times they're followed by a continued dry spell until the next empty netter.
How often will the mishandle the puck for a tap in to an empty net? How often will he get a 2 on 0 when a dman goes for a changexat the wrong time?
Still, I like that he was going to the net all night, and his hitting and physical presence. I'm weary that he'll be able to produce all that much offense over the next 7 years and that he'll hinder whatever line he's on offensively. I have hope he can improve his defensive positioning. One of his strengths seems to be his attitude/character/coachability/work ethic.
That's just it - when he's engaged in the game. He's legit unstoppable. Doesn't mean he's going to score every game... but he's dangerous when he's engaged. The problem is, it happens so rarely and we get the lost on the ice version of Josh Anderson so much more frequently. He was flying out there in the 3rd and overtime. Once he got his confidence he just took off. Wish he could play like that consistently.
It's not that I don't like Anderson at all. It's that at his contract is f***ing atrocious. How someone can come off a 4 point season and get max term at huge money is insane.. with only one good season under their belts.I don't agree. Yes, he does play a different style of game. I do see the tunnel vision you're talking about however his tunnel vision leads to Josh crashing the net, making big hits and sometimes giving energy/momentum to his teammates.
I'd take Anderson on my team way before a perimeter player.
I don't see Anderson ever reaching that season again, if I'm honest. I hope I'm wrong.
If he was signed @ 3.5-4M, there'd be a lot less complaints with his effort/iq level. I don't want to say it's a lack of effort, because he honestly seems like he tries. But I think it looks as if he's floating or invisible a lot of the time because he has no idea where to be on the ice 95% of the time.
