Player Discussion Joseph freaking Woll

Meh he got assets with Murray, one of which was used to get Schenn so it's not to bad.

Hard to lose a trade when you give up literally nothing
Easy to lose a trade when you take on a minor league goalie for $5m in cap that goes beyond this year. Even worse when you give up picks to give up an equally bad yet cheaper goalie

The excitement of the Leafs maybe, possibly having drafted finally a stud franchise goalie is awesome.

He will carry on from Felix Potvin, and, he must go further.
I love Woll but the franchise goalie talk is a bit premature.

I'd be thrilled if he's a consistent 50+ game starter that can remain in the top 15ish of starting goalies in a given year

It's the same thing Vegas is experiencing with Hill. Bigger, calmer, smoother goalies than what they've had.

Not every game will go this well, but the consistency is a breath of fresh air
You just jinxed it for Hill lol

Yea lmao that post did not age well.

In the context of game 3 it made sense

Is Dubas the only GM who deserves to get flak for utilizing a player that was in the organization from a previous regime, or do you hold everyone to that inane standard?
No, Dubas gets flak for trying and failing to find a goalie for 5 years when the answer was under his nose.

Great game coming in for a tough game. Hope he can keep it up. It is about time we had a rookie sensation in the playoffs again.

Just think if Knies gets healthy soon

So after 6 or 7 attempts at finding us a goalie, Dubas and his followers may end up having to rely on one of his predecessor's draft choices.

How absolutely perfect.

I completely forgot Lou drafted him. Very fitting indeed.

Glad Dubas hung on to and developed him.
I'd say he developed despite Dubas.

Only firing Briere recently. Hiring and firing Imoo who should've been kept. Just shit for brains when it comes to goaltending (and most other aspects of hockey too)

Besides, it's not like Dubas ever had faith in the guy, giving every call up to Kallgren until he was absolutely trash.. or got hurt I can't keep all these mediocre goalies straight anymore

The legend this man could create if he keeps playing this way...

Absolutely incredible. The boys have fire in their eyes after tonight, fire in their bellys playing as a team blocking all those shots and now fire in their hearts with gaining the trust in their goalie.

It's time.

I would characterize that game as "tidy". No unnecessary rebounds, held on to what he should have and kept the puck moving at some unexpected moments.

He was calm, collected and steady. What more could you ask for?

He might start next season as the #2, but would not be surprised if he ends up as the main man.

No, but he could've been given a chance this year instead of shuffling the chairs on the overpaid goalie titanic

He was given a chance in the regular season and did really well.

But he earned the chance with his stellar AHL play and growth. Last year he wasn’t this good.

Putting him in an NHL role to start the year wouldn’t have been smart

And if he went into the season with a brand new unproven rookie with the rest of the team in win now mode, I can guess what the posts from you and others would be?
If you give me the choice of an unproven rookie for $800k or broken ass Matt Murray for $4.7m, I'm taking the rookie every single time

He was given a chance... after Dubas acquired a broken, shitty goalie. And then after Kallgren was given every opportunity first.

Like when he went into the season with the guy that had just won an AHL championship and was the goalie of the year over a 38 yr old career backup and all the Hans lost their minds. The fans of this team will never change.

Sparks and McBackup both sucked

Yeah, it's a bit silly. What Dubas' did that's at least undeniable is have him signed for the next TWO seasons for less than 800k aav
