Joseph freaking Woll

Woll has still been a stud on high-danger chances, ranking 3rd in the league there. For whatever reason he has been mediocre to poor on low and medium danger chances. Stolarz is among the best in low danger sv%, but bad at medium danger? And 10th in the league at high danger.

This tracks with the eye test, Stolarz has been pretty consistent/reliable whereas Woll has been a bit more up and down and has been letting in some uncharacteristically weak goals but still making tons of impressive stops on point blank chances. Just look at the Florida game, he's the only reason it was close score-wise, even though he let in that crappy Forsling goal. In general I feel like Woll has let in more point shots this season.

Honestly, it's probably exhaustion. He's never played this much hockey in his life.

The Leafs didn't exactly give him an easy time when Stolarz was out either. At the start of the season, I thought he looked like prime Price.

Quite likely the case. It's good experience for him though and hopefully should prepare him well for when his extension kicks in. I loved the Stolarz signing but Woll is still our future.

Im still team Woll.

At this point you just got to admit that no amount of data will make you pick someone over Woll. We had the same with the Campbell apologists.

Stolarz is the hotter goalie. He has better numbers this year. He’s had better numbers over his career. He’s played more games than Woll in his career. Everything points to Stolarz but the Woll fanatics can’t accept it. We need to trade Woll for them to accept Stolarz.

Believe Woll was very good in high danger shots last year too.

His ability to swallow pucks and control rebounds becomes huge in the playoffs at slowing the game down.

Leafs looked chaotic vs Boston with Samsonov scrambling around in net but when Woll was in net he was a calming presense, with his controlled movement and ability to swallow the puck. Even Ullmark said it.

Why can't we support them both? Over the course of the season, the two best players we had game in and game out.

You and a few others like to make some proclamations about goaltending.. Have you played goaltender at a high level? I haven't but having been coaching competitive hockey for 30 years, I've picked up a few things and learned from other goaltending coaches.

What are your credentials to be so definitive about the position?

You can support both but one has to start Game 1 in the playoffs and it should be Stolarz.

For the rest of the bit about credentials, lol.

Only one goalie can play at a time.

How is saying Stolarz plays statistically better than Woll so controversial to you? It is an objective fact. He has better numbers this year, and better number in his career over a larger sample size.

No doubt Woll is an upgrade over Samsonov and Campbell. Last year I was pushing for Woll to start in the playoffs, as was the team, but he choked and had a rough end of the year leading to Samsonov being our starter.

Now, we have a goalie that has better numbers than Woll throughout their career and we should trust him until he doesn't. Woll had so many opportunities to run with being our #1 goalie with Stolarz injury and surgery but he couldn't take it. Eventually, all teams have to pick one goalie if they feel they have two starters. Saying Stolarz is statistically better than Woll needs credentials? Here's my credentials: I can read numbers.

I don't have a problem with Stolarz starting. I am not a Woll fanatic.. I have watched you trash Woll all year long. I have also watched you make a fool of yourself on the main boards by discussing the pros and cons of other teams goaltenders as if you are some goaltending expert. So what are your credentials?

I can recall giving you some numbers. Woll 2.76 and .907... Saros 2.97 and .896.

You dismissed them completely. So please tell me... can you really read numbers?

What are their career numbers? Yes, Woll has a better save percentage than Saros this year. It is the worst season of Saros' career which has a lot to do with why Nashville is having the season they are.

I don't have to tell you my credentials, unless you're trying to hire me or offer me money. Your online validation doesn't mean as much to me as you think it does.
