They let Husso walk last year...there's no way they're replacing Binnington with Hofer. Although now that they've gutted the team, maybe they'll finally try to move Binnington.

Binnington plays best under high pressure situations, and I doubt the Blues will be having any of those any time soon.

If they're looking to rebuild and tank, he Binny seems like a great guy to have between the pipes.

Ignoring the fact that his value has to be at an all time low, I can’t even see how there would be a need for the Blues to move him. Hofer will be the backup next year making less than 800K. We’re spending less than 7 million on goalies for the next two seasons. Cap wise there’s no need to get rid of Binnington, even if Hofer relegates him to backup status.

Do the Blues plan on being competitive soon? If they think this retool/rebuild will take 2-3 years just let him be the Tank Commander and then get rid of him when his contract would be easier to move.

He’s certainly in the bottom five in the league in terms of value for goalie contracts. Term and cap hit are both pretty brutal.

An average to terrible goaltender for $6m. Sorry Blues, you made your bed with this one. Hope he bounces back.

The Kings should trade for Binnington and dress him as an enforcer
The refs won't be able to save his ass then

Joel Hofer has come in and has literally stole the show.

If he continues to prove to be a true number 1, what value does JB have around the NHL?

Curios on you all as outsiders take on this!

Thanks, have a great weekend!
I feel like people rush to ship out their #1 because a brand new to the NHL goalie does well.

You need to wait until teams have actual tape on the guy and then you'll know. At this point, players are guessing at their shot as they are shooting. Typically, you have a general consensus on where to default your shot to (glove high/low, stick side, etc.) unless there was a shot they saw better.

Hofer, who has played well (I mean it's two games against the wings and they aren't exactly elite) doesn't mean anything until his freshman season is officially over.

Case and point: Petr Mrazek. He was amazing and the second coming of Hasek when he got a chance at the NHL and people were saying we should get rid of Howard for Mrazek to start. We have all see what happened there.

Another example would be Matt Murray over Fleury. Murray played very well and Pittsburgh just said f-it and let VGK take him in the expansion draft. How'd that work out for Pitt and Murray.

That's gonna be one hell of a buy-out, maybe he'll buy season tickets and fight people in the crowd.

Army doesn't buy out contracts and the Blues are not trading Binnington. People can bring up stats all they want but he's probably been the Blues best player this year. He's a legit #1 goalie and can be the difference in a playoff series. Put Roy behind this roster this year and he'd fair no better.

Remember when St. Louis brought in this kid at the end of the season. He got hot and they rode it to a Stanley Cup. Then they traded away Jake Allen and kept the young kid. Then they gave the young kid $6MM a year for a billion years. Then the kid started to suck more and more every year after, but his toughness and fortitude were off the charts. Then they had to let another good goalie walk in FA because no one wanted a $6MM basket case for a billion years on their team.

Maybe St. Louis should try doing that again with this guy that has 4 career starts.

Remember when the Blues won the Cup riding this young goalie, and the next year was ready to compete for a 2nd Cup and Covid happened and the team, not Binnington, played like crap in the delayed playoffs.. remember when the Blues just last year took the Avs to 6 games and if it hadn't been for Binnington getting run over by f*** face Kadri they had a shot of winning that series?? ohh that's right it doesn't fit all the haters narrative and their feelings need to be hugged and stuff

Doug Armstrong really needs to get Binny straightened out. Piss poor, loner attitude his whole career and cannot control his temper. It's like Binny wants to burn every bridge in the league

Yep. If the Blues are suddenly contenders again with Hofer, then we can worry about paying to unload Binnington's contract and round out the roster with that space. Until then, let Hofer legitimately take over. Maybe Binnington (who has been much better than stat-watchers believe, but he still hasn't been especially good) will look better in a tandem situation and that will boost his value or mean that the Blues are fine keeping him and it won't matter until Hofer gets a new contract.
