Jonathan Huberdeau

QMJHL MVP & Memorial Cup MVP

This kid is legit and here's hoping that he lands to New Jersey.

Great team, great player, great season! Go Sea Dogs Go! Bravo à Jonathan Huberdeau! It's been a long time that a Quebec player is so dominant and hope he'll be considered a top 2 pick!

does the team that gets him, almost feel obligated to trade into the 15-25 range to take zach phillips after seeing the chemistry they have?

Exactly. That's why I could see Colorado drafting Huberdeau 2nd overall then trade down their 11th pick or just keep it and reach for Phillips. Great duo.

I feel like it's the other way around. If you plan on drafting Phillips, you should be trying to find a way to get Huberdeau. Watching this Mem Cup really made it look like all Phillips does is look for Huberdeau when he has the puck, even forcing passes to him when he's clearly covered. It sort of seems like a Gomez-Gionta kind of thing.

I love how Russia still drafts these guys.. They waste their picks.

Not really, as their draft doesn't really matter and is a waste of time as a whole to begin with.

The alternative to picking Canadian players is picking from the scraps of unaffiliated hockey schools, so it's not like they have anything to lose.

Huberdeau-Phillips is seen as Phillips needing Huberdeau, but really I think it's more of a Lecavalier-Richards sort of thing.

I haven't checked the rest of the thread, so forgive me if this has been said already, does leading his team to the Cup and being named MVP now put Huberdeau in contention for the #1 pick?

I don't think so, but I'm sure there'll be speculation.

Maybe at least a top 3 pick now then?

A lot of people in the hockey world puts him now as a safe top 3 pick. I actually think he needs another year in junior which won't affect his development. Not saying he hasn't proven anything there but his style of play in junior makes him look like he is big and physical in the corners. At NHL level, that won't be the same game if he still has a 170 lbs frame. He will need to get bigger if he wants to play that style.

Well yeah he obviously needs to bulk up.

he is going to look good in a panthers jersey. I expect to see him picked at number 3 to us and in the future on our top line. :)

Panthers fans would really want Huberdeau over Couturier/Landeskog?

Well, comparing Huberdeau to those 2 guys, he's more flashy and more of an explosive player. Landeskog and Couturier are great leaders and play with grit. But, for a Panthers team that is in a rebuilding process, they should opt for that dynamite player who's going to bring the fans off their seat. At center position, they already have a powerforward in Nick Bjugstad and Drew Shore and on the LW, they have Quinton Howden. Their defense pool is stacked up so now, they need that special player in Huberdeau that will bring lots of offense. But, all in all, I think Huberdeau could also go to the Avalanche at #2.

Can't speak for Landeskog, but I'd take Huberdeau before Couturier...

He has higher offensive potential. He really has that pro potential...really intelligent on the ice, good vision, makes plays fast...

Couturier is more well rounded though...he's be really valuable too...but with a top 5 pick, I'd take Huberdeau.

As an Avs fan, I would be pretty happy if they took Huberdeau at 2 (though I do want Larsson more). You always want guys who are proven winners and show that they thrive in high pressure situations

Personally I don't think any of RNH, Huberdeau, or Couturier will be going back to junior next year, which once again sucks for the World Junior team.
