How is he Dwight King 2.0 when he's better now and will be a better player in the future?

He's more like a Max Pacioretty.

I'm sorry, but he's not even close to Max Pacioretty. Pacioretty is younger and already put up a 65 point season in the NHL.

I, of course, will not get into a future debate as I seem to have left my crystal ball at home. But if you're familiar with software, the version number denotes development and advancement in the code. Saying he is Dwight King 2.0 means that he is more developed and refined than King, but in the same mold. It doesn't mean that he is the same or that King is better.

However, he is in the same mold as King with better hitting ability. A good two-way forward that can chip in some points on the bottom 6. Frattin, this year, was 25GP 7G 6A 13P. King last season was 27 GP 5G 9A 14P and is two years younger. I wouldn't exactly be jumping on the one player is vastly superior and will always be for the rest of their careers train just yet....

They are similar players and Frattin is a clear upgrade at the moment, but that isn't the point of the trade. If we wanted a better player, we'd trade for Read. We are interested in Toronto's offer because of the possibility of a first round pick, not because you have offered the glorious and reputable Matt Frattin...

Stylistically, they are similar.

I make the comparison since most LA fans haven't really seen Frattin play.

Honestly it's probably the complete opposite in that last sentence. Hockey starts at 4 PM out here for us. We don't have to stay up super late to catch games. I think it's the fact that 99.95% of Leafs fans on this board are in bed before we start to play as to why so many don't want Bernier. I've seen Frattin play. His game is much more similar to a more skilled Dwight King than Pacioretty.

If it's between Martin, Read and Frattin and picks...I take them in that order...if it's between Read and Frattin, I would take the undersized Read because at least he cracked 20 goals once already.

I'm embarrassed for others if fans are saying Frattin is Dwight King 2.0. I mean...really?He's much more skilled than Dwight and not to mention he has more speed.

Jesus Christ guys...:shakehead

Ohh man, if we got Coyle I'd be ****ing happy. That kid was a noticeable beast every time I've watched Minny..

Dude you really need to actually read the posts. Stylistically they play a very similar game. Obviously Frattin is more skilled. No one is even coming close to denying that. But the style and way they play the game is similar.

The one thing NO ONE is talking about is that Frattin is a RWer. We do not need another one. It's well established. RW is now in the league of centers and D for us - incredibly deep with no real room for additions.

You do know Frattin has played LW in the past, right?

But he's a better RW, no? If he can actually play LW, he'd be a nice 3rd liner but to me there's just more desirable options.

Read could be our answer to our 2nd line LW problem. And I'm sure if we made a deal for him, Dean would be smart enough to do his due diligence and get Philly's permission to talk about his contract demands before acquiring him. We traded for Regehr, who was an impending UFA and we got him locked up. If Read is the guy the Kings want, they'll make sure he fits cap wise on the team.

If we tried Holloway, sure he's unproven but he's a free asset. We drafted him, own his rights, and he led Manchester in scoring twice. He then did extremely well in Sweden. Toffoli was unproven when called up to a Cup contending team this year and he looked pretty damn good for us. And if we do get Holloway, we can move Bernier for a pick and prospect and refill the cupboard, which is always great.

At this point you'd have to say Frattin has more offensive ability than Dwight King. Definitely not as good as Pacioretty. Comparisons between Frattin and Holloway at this point are impossible. However, I'd be willing to bet that Holloway puts up better numbers than Frattin at this point.

Clutterbuck is the dictionary definition of the kind of player Dean and Darryl and Hexy love, and the kind of player you make room for.

You're picking 18 year olds late in the 1st round and hoping they become 50-60 point NHL forwards or second pairing defencemen in the NHL. Matt Frattin will be that in the next 3 years and fits in with the team. I don't understand the logic behind a late 1st rounder being better than a guy like Matt Frattin.

You're already one of the 5 youngest teams in the league.

I agree.

Frattin and a second this year and one of your solid B prospects would be a good return but then I have watched Frattin play allot before he made the Leafs and I love the kid. I also think that if he hadn't been injured that he would have scored 20 goals this season.

From the Leafs I like the following two players out of their prospect pool who I think they could part with.

Brad Ross (hard hitting LW 6'2" loves to hit pest with good hands and drives the net. Top 6er who is ready or right there) If Ross were the return I would want this years first and possibly a later pick (4th this year 5th next)

Tyler Biggs (6'3" 220 prototypical DL player who hits plays hard and can score. 1st rd pick in 11 taken at 22nd) If Biggs were the return I would want the Leafs 2013 2nd plus their 2014 2nd as well. I love Biggs but that is what I would ask for if the return was Bernier.

That said, in the end I don't believe as of today that the Leafs is where JB will end up.

Late last yr in the Calder cup semis against OKC (the final game) Frattin blew his knee and underwent surgery for it. This year even with the lockout Fratts came back but didn't really look comfortable in the beginning, TO sent him down (AHL). A short time later he was examined by the Ortho surgeons and it was discovered that he still had a piece of ligament or something that the surgeons had missed floating within the capsule. An operation was scheduled and it was removed, after which Frattin began to reclaim the game he had before (only not hitting his previous seasons totals because of the layoff and conditioning). King and Fratts are not a good comparison IMHO, if you would like a fair comparison I think Fratts is Dustin Brown Lite.
