My thoughts exactly. I'm pretty sure he's overlooked that the lesser goalie in his opinion help win LA's first cup.

I really think Quick is the main reason the Kings got passed the Blues and the Sharks.

Quick played unreal.

The team just had such up and down efforts, but Quick in those first two rounds was Awesome.

I am glad that this has come to an end. As much as I was -and still am- a Bernier fan, it remains that he has been unproven. Huge year coming up for him especially with a team that does not have the same style of D than the Kings. But he deserves his chance. Frattin is also unproven but while watching some of the games between the Leafs and the Bruins earlier in the playoffs, I found him energetic, great wrist shot. He will fit in great with LA style of play.

No doubt about that. Bernier has huge potential, but to think he was, is, and will be better than Quick is pretty fare fetched. Poorman is just a real bitter guy stemming from his being removed from Lovelines on KROQ 10 years ago, a show he started and get ZERO credit for doing so.

Bernier will have success in Toronto and I will miss seeing his cool masks.

Last 2 trades we made:
We got Reger Frattin, Scrivens, TO 2nd round 2014 or 15 and 492,000 in cap space retention.

We gave Bernier and a 2nd in 2014 and 2015.

Not sure if its all that good for us. If Frattin is a bust and only slightly better than Lewis we will be scratching our heads on what DL did here.

Thanks....and fixed that for ya....

I always enjoy your posts, man. Always very informative :naughty:.

Bottom line, apparently Dean didn't want Read and he wanted Frattin. He targeted Frattin. We have to look outside the vacuum of pure hockey talent and see the bigger picture, which Dean always does. What happens when it's time to re-up both Read and Brown in the same season? Do you think there's a planet where Matt Read should be paid anywhere near Dustin Brown? Not the one I live on. Brown might give the club another hometown discount. I highly doubt Read would. Dean always talks about cost certainty and picking up Matt Read wouldn't have provided that all things considered.

Leafs fan here hoping this works out for both teams, I was a huge fan of Frattin he is incredibly strong on his skates and he has all the tools to be a 30 goal guy.

I wish him luck :yo:

Exactly. Read would've created a bigger problem next season. The real benefit I see is this helps our cap situation more than anything else.

I like Frattin, and I think DL had a commodity to offer and opened it up to whoever was interested. He evaluated the offers and took the one that was best suited for this team now and in the future.
As much as I love Read, he is my favorite Flyer, I totally understand the concerns about salary and the cap next year and that is as a Flyers fan as well. They have several contracts coming due (Giroiux, B Schenn, Couturier for starters) and that will eat up a lot of salary. It's just possible that the ywon't have money for REad next year if he continues to play as well and consistently as he has.

SO I understand Dean's position totally. And I think Frattin is better suited for the Kings system and esp with Sutter, I think sutter will bring out the best in him and hopefully, bring a more consistant game, I think he will end up on the 2nd line, with Richards and Carter. That line could use his strength and will, giving them more room to work.

And getting the 500K will/should go a long way to ink Scuds.

TBH I don't think I ever saw Frattin playing LW, always RW

Played LW for the Leafs last year and played well.

Best of luck to Scrivy and Frats going forward, great people as well as great hockey players.

Nicknames are in...

I don't know if Frattin is a better player 1v1 against Read but he's definitely a better fit for the LA Kings.

I think Read wouldn't do so well in a structured system. Flyers system certainly helps most of their forwards but leaves their D and goaltending to dry...similar to Ron Wilson's teams.

I'm a Leafs fan. And I'm pretty sure he's never played at LW for any long period of time while on the Leafs.

His most common lines were set up

MacArthur - Grabovski - Frattin

and

MacArthur - Kadri - Frattin

Having said that, as a sniper, Frattin would probably benefit from playing on his off-wing a la Ovechkin.

Good to hear. Unless the Kings sign Holloway, odds are he'll be playing alongside Richards and Carter. That's huge.

That might get him going again. He started last year on fire with 7 goals in the first 10 games. Then he had to get a minor fix, i think it was fragment in his knee from a prior surgery. After coming back he didn't find a line to click with and played all over the place. Still though when he's not producing he's still involved and is definitely not a floater type. He plays hard and is built like a tank. I'm sad to see him go especially since we're getting a goalie back and we have Reimer. i don't know how that's going to play out. Reimer was great for us last year.

Anyways, best of luck to Frattin next year. I'm excited to see what Bernier can do for us. From all that I read it seems that he has the best potential among those dealt today.

Is Bernier's puck handling skills good?

It's been a long time since the Leafs have had a good puck handling goalie..

He's good. He's not gonna be throwing saucers but he's not sloppy with it.

Some people are saying Frattin is a 30 goal guy I really doubt that but he can be a 15-25 goal guy playing with Richards. He has a much better supporting cast there and he has a real good shot and Sutter will make sure Frattin plays a hard game. Great addition to your team IMO. As for Scrivens, he will leave you wishing you had a better back up but regardless if Quick stays healthy you guys did well in this trade, the 2nd is a cherry on top. If Quick goes down for any length of time hopefully your team can carry Scrivens because he is shaky outside of his crease and is suspect at times. Hopefully you guys can kick some ass though, with you guys being from the West as a Leaf fan I really like your team and I LOVED when Carter and Richards lifted the cup I drank all the Flyers fan's tears that night lol. Good luck next year guys, hopefully Frattin lights it up for ya, dont draft any all stars with the second though please that will sting :P.

Wish you guys the best of luck too, ill be popping in on the leafs board from time to time. Bernier is going to be a treat to watch and he's a leader on the ice with his calm demeanor. Plus he has a ring and that will bring more clout into the locker room.

Also I would bet that Lieweke had a say in this trade.

Out of curiosity, you're not changing your name are you? Hope you keep it.

The difference between Bernier and Scrivens is probably a 4th rounder, maybe a 3rd at best. Not a Frattin AND a 2nd. Well done Deano, well done!!!

Actually it's Matt Frattin ... a 2nd Rnd Pick ... AND $500,000 in CAP SPACE to use towards Scuderi or ?

Scrivens should be more than a serviceable backup to Quick until Jones can assume that position, so really the only loss in the trade is the higher quality of Bernier's play should the back up have to assume the starter roll for any extended period of time, if you look at it that way, Dean just made one hell of a Hockey Deal. :handclap:

But then I've never been one of those BERNIER > QUICK types around here ;)
so frankly while I wish Bernier the best in his new situation, I'm glad we got what we did before Bernier REALLY had to be tested and maybe might have FAILED ? what then ? at least he held or improved his value high enough to warrant this deal while frankly every team out there knew we weren't dealing from a position of too great a strength considering if Bernier would have been offer sheeted all we MAYBE would have ended up with is a SECOND ... not Matt Frattin, AND a Decent cheap Back-up Goalie, AND a 2nd AND $500,000 in CAP Space relief.

Frankly I can't see why ANYONE could hate this trade from our side ? :shakehead
