BERNIER TRADED!!!

Jon Rosen ‏@lakingsinsider 47s

Jonathan Bernier has been traded to Toronto for Matt Frattin, Ben Scrivens, and a second round pick in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto's option)

I just got an message sent to my phone, saying the Kings will be trading someone in a few minutes... Who is it??? Bernier?

Meh, not too pleased. We still have a huge hole on the left side. The pick not even being this year SUCKS

I'll be cheering for Frattin big time. He's going to be a fan favorite very quickly. His lower balance is Crosby like and his shot is as hard as anybody. If he can figure it out, he's a great scoring winger that bangs.

Just a stupid trade by the Leafs..

I'm happy with that return. A 1st round pick would have been nice but it was a bit optimistic, hopefully the Kings can continue to pick well in the second round.

As a Leafs fan- I really like Frattin (it hurts to lose him, imo) and I also think Scrivens is actually underrated. I'm optimistic the deal will work out well for you guys.

I have my fingers crossed for Bernier- the obvious "star" of the trade, for now.

And I have to admit, I'm relieved we hung on to our 1st. :)

Dude, enough with the stats. You admitted you've never even watched him before. You can't look at shot totals and tell how good a goalie is. You had a goalie younger than him and you gave him up because you weren't willing to wait. Bernier is at the perfect age, already experienced and ready to become a starter. He's awesome, he's just been blocked by a top 3 goalie in the league. You are undervaluing him big time.

Dude, no need for the manly dude thing... Enjoy the Toronto return. Not bad in fact. But Frattin is no Read. You do not like stats but 28 in 82 vs 71 in 121?

Careful with that Bobrovsky comment, you might get the same treatment next year. You had to let Bernier have a shot. If you think Bob was indeed the best goalie in the Nhl, well we disagree.

Looks like a rare win/win trade.

Leafs get potentially a franchise goalie and the Kings get a solid backup along with a potential top 6 winger.

On second thought, I hate this deal. Frattin is a good piece, but he's a third line RW. The last thing we need are more RW's! Scrivens is a cheap throw in, but the worst part is the pick. Lombardi is trying to recoup one of the lost picks from the Regehr trade, but I wanted that pick THIS YEAR. I think the Leafs win this trade rather easily

No he isn't. You'll love him.

Great pick up with Frattin for you guys. Big strong physical forward(like most of your team) who can shoot the puck as good as anybody.

Fine with me. Backup goalie in return, a winger and a 2nd. Dean couldn't take on too much salary but needed a roster player. Managed to take care of business in that regard as well.

Love the trade. Am anxious to see what Frattin can do in our line up. 2nd to me is great, we can even pick up a goalie for the future for the pick.

One great thing we have to realize is Frattin and Scrivens combine make Berniers salary. This is very important as we fill the back up role, add a DL / Kings type winger that will make our 3rd line more powerful and offensive and gives DL extra cash to sign another player or freedom to take on a little more salary in a trade.

Saying that I would be tempted to try him on the Philly line at LW.

I like the trade, it's 1st round value-ish. Goaltenders don't get a 1st round pick back in trades anymore unless someone is an idiot. I'm not convinced Frattin is much more than a 3rd liner. Maybe a 10th forward. In terms of the value of the backup goalie, it's a wash replacing Scrivens with Bernier. Think I would have done whatever deal the Flyers had on the table if this was the return though, because Matt Read is a more versatile player, and I guess Deano would have taken Steve Mason and lived with it (or third goalie Cal Heeter, but he was untested in the NHL).

So, what can you guys tell me about Bernier?

Scrivens, will be a good back up for you guys, he can handle the 10-15 games he will play a year.

Frattin is a player that you will love. A solid 2nd/3rd liner. Speed, plays with some grit, and a heck of a wrist shot.

Sounds like a good deal. Toronto fans are going to be signing Bernier praises in a year. Bernier is going to shine pretty bright in Toronto. Reimer might as well pack his bags now.

He will be your starting goalie and you will love his calm presence.

The very definition of the word "Solid."

Frattin is a solid second line Winger with a great shot and a wicked 1-timer. Utilize him on the PP, it'll help.

Scrivens is a decent backup, but his stats in Toronto are really deflated because the team played like horse**** when he was in net.
