Hope he spends the rest of his life in jail.

NGL, this picture just about broke me. Those two little girls, losing their daddy. That young woman, now a single mother and a widow who has to bear this tragedy the rest of her days.
It's his son and daughter (not two girls) fyi. Absolutely gutted for their family.

Has it been confirmed this driver was drunk? I read a handful of pages back that no arrest has been made.

The driver is suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and has been charged with two counts of death by auto, police said. They said the investigation is ongoing.

So as I understand it, a car was passing the Gaudreau brothers while this Higgins guy was trying to pass it from the left, and then he had the genius idea to pass it from the right and thus hit the bikers?

That's such dumbassery it's hard to even begin to imagine.

They were cycling and got hit by a driver who was apparently trying to overtake someone else.
I have seen this too many times. Impatient driver trying to pass slower vehicles without knowing what’s in front of them

Slow down people. It’s not worth it

Can’t believe it happened to my all time favorite player

RIP Johnny. I will never forget you

This is just one of those things that you'll go crazy trying to make sense of why it had to happen. "Sometimes life just doesn't make sense". Just no way to rationalize something like this.

It quickly puts life into perspective and makes me question - the level we bitch and complain about some of these guys and how they perform at their “job”.

I woke up to this and was shocked. Unimaginable.

My thoughts are with Blue Jackets and Flames fans, his family, friends, team mates and anyone who knew him on a personal level.

RIP

Man that’s horrible. Doesn’t he have young kids? Thoughts and prayers with his family.

I’m not sure if arguing about the validity of the driver being drunk or not and how drunk or not he was is useful, at this point.

If we jump to any conclusions it should be: be aware and respect bicyclists on the road (even if it annoys you), even if you are sober.

I am not a cyclist and I find when perfectly sober in the day a lot of situations involving automobiles and bicycles to be quite dangerous. Makes me wonder if this area had bike lanes. But sometimes drivers don’t even respect those.
