Dodged a bullet long term because they would of never won with a team built around him.

Still would suck to keep your best player for a playoff run just to end up losing him for nothing after getting manhandled by Edm

Is it really Treliving's fault? It seems like Gaudreau just wanted to go elsewhere which most in the know thought would be likely for a while now.
It’s another circumstance of letting a valuable asset go for nothing and letting externalities dictate things. Giordano… well expansion draft. Brodie… well ya know we had to contend and it happens. Hamonic… kinda sucks, even though we gave up a first for him.

It’s happened time and time again the last few years. Tre’s words with Gaudreau… “well we took a risk… and it ended the way it ended” What is a GM’s job if he can’t preserve his assets? He’s constantly played the gambler and lost out.

Tough loss for the fans.

I can't help but wonder what Treliving's plan was all along though. It's not like they built that roster from the ground up. They just kind of figured they'd be competitive all of a sudden.

This is the one year they took a shot, but it's not like it was even expected. They let Gaudreau hit UFA, Tkachuk has a massive QO and all of the leverage and Tre gets caught with his dick in his hand.

Fortunately they've got a great farm system, but you gotta think he should've covered his ass.

If he ends up with the Flyers, there’s going to be a lot of stuff moving around in the next few hours. They are going to need a lot more than all of JVR’s contract to move if they want to get Gaudreau and fill out the rest of their roster. That said, I’m liking the Devils in the convo.

Yeah, he should have at least gotten value for him but I don't think trading him was an option when you're winning the division and making a Cup run.

Still think he ends up in Philly. I think that's been his plan for quite a few years now

Damn always sucks to lose a good player this way.

I never liked him, so just for you Flame fans. I hope he never lives up to his next contract.

I predict that Treliving signs Giroux or Palat now that he knows Gaudreau isn't returning.
