Sorry Calgary fans, its a tough pill to swallow when a star player decides to leave and especially when you gave it your all to keep them, he would have been paid the most staying a flame so i suppose you have to respect it was a family home type decision and not a money one.

Bedard anyone? Tank for Bedard?

They don't have a chance to compete with Arizona or Chicago.

Elite talent must mean something different to you .

Elite talent

McDavid
Matthews
Draisaitl
Barkov
Crosby

I am not list D or goalies. I am sure I am missing a few. The NJD have some nice looking players but elite I don't see it.
Uhhhh...Mac? Makar? Kuch? Barkov(wth)? Crosby(not at this age)?

The worst part of all this is that Eric Francis may have felt positive emotions as a result.

This is Tavares all over again. Your biggest star player leaving for nothing in return. I would expect Gaudreau to be booed when he returns to the Flames rink against his former club.

The team Tavares left went to the finals the following two years without him. So it's not always bad.

Can't see why he would go to free agency to go to New Jersey. Must be Philly.
Newark is beautiful in the spring.

stupid of flames gm to think he would actually stay and losing out on ability to get something back.
shitty on gaudreau to wait until a couple hours before his contract expires to be honest with the team

I see that making even less sense. Unless that's what you're suggesting.

Gaudreau is a very good player but he's replaceable with the Flames depth. I'd rather have Giroux or Palat at half the price of Gaudreau. Then use the extra cap space on a top 4 dman.

Because new Jersey isn’t super far from Philly, and the devils can both pay the fat ass contract he wants and have a shot in hell at being genuinely competitive soon while the flyers are being ran into the ground.

Then again who knows, maybe he really doesn’t care at this point

Philly seems like a disaster for the near future, whereas NJ seems to be actively building something. Unless the hometown appeal is really that strong, I'd think NJ would be the more enjoyable place to play.
