wrote this one a few days back...

He hails from Salem down in New Jersey
This Is where you’ll find Johnny Hockey signing soon you’ll see
He’ll douse the flames, sign and quickly skate away
And listen to his home state back him and all shout Hooray
Maybe someday he’ll be back in cowtown
But he’ll be wearin the devil making Treliving look like a rodeo clown
I said, Go
Go Johnny Go,
Go,
Go Johnny Go
Go
Go Johnny Go
Go, Go
Go Johnny Go
He’s good as gone…Johnny be bad

He played the Flames to drive up the price, fair enough.

Enjoy a $10mil+ perennial play off underachiever who's about to turn 29, NJD/PHI/NYI.

Treliving is not a good GM. He just got used and abused by Gaudreau. It's obvious this was all premeditated by Gaudreau from the start to stall and keep the Flames management and all his teammates hung out to dry on his decision.

Gaudreau is a very good player but he's replaceable with the Flames depth. I'd rather have Giroux or Palat at half the price of Gaudreau. Then use the extra cap space on a top 4 dman.
Gaudreau is an elite offensive player. Losing him hurts. I think Calgary is in for a rough couple of seasons trying to rebuild the top half of their roster. Particularly if Tkachuk chooses to move on.

Signing aging vets will only ensure they continue on as a fringe team. You're also not seeing much in terms of top four defensemen on the open market. Odds are you're stuck with a handful of diminishing assets a couple years from now if the plan is to spend in free agency.

Ya but Gaudreau isn't a player you're going to win the cup with as your top dog to carry the offense. He's not good enough to lead a team to a cup. This is a blessing in disguise for the Flames team. In a few years from now, they will be glad they didn't have Gaudreau on their team eating up 25% of the cap.

Part of me thinks he got this news out early to allow Fletcher to finalize a trade for JVR, but we'll see what the deal is early tomorrow morning.

I'll be a Johnny Hockey fan wherever he goes(excluding EDM/VAN/TOR). One hell of a player and really one of the few reasons this team was watchable the last 8 years. Wish him success wherever he lands and maybe being on the East coast will finally clue people in to how good he actually is. Thanks for the memories.

My prediction for the flyers. they trade jvr along with travis konecny as the sweetner. this will free up 12.5 of cap space. they can sign jg and have money to fill other positions in free agency.
