Johnny Gaudreau: 2015/16 expectations?

As an Oilers fan I have a pretty strong affinity for this guy, actually. I've enjoyed following him since his freshman year at Boston College. He, for whatever reason, is the first Flames player I actually full-on root for. Even as much as I respect Jarome Iginla I always reveled in his struggles.

He is a good player and he seems to have a good head as both a hockey player and a person and I think he will at the very least be a good player for a number of years.

It's funny to see this kid get so much praise now, when previously his threads were chock full of doubters.

Is there anybody left who still thinks his rookie year was a fluke?

So Gaudreau is pretty much the entire Flames offense. 10 points on the team's 16 goals. He needs some help.

We wouldn't have a win without him (not that we have many).

You're right in your assertion. He drives the 1st line at even strength. The Flames lack of depth at forward is the real culprit for that stat though. No Bouma, Ferland doesn't help but this team is lacking in another top-6 option on LW.

Yea, but let's wait till he does it against real NHLers at even strength who can actually play defense while juggling flaming bowling pins and singing the Canadian national anthem in reverse with an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent.

Maybe then I'll buy the hype. Until then, he's a 1 dimensional power play specialist. He'll be lucky to break 30 points.

LOVE this post lol

I expect he's getting lots of extra attention this year. So is the whole team. A drop off is to be expected while they adjust. This happens to almost all skilled players breaking in. From what I saw of three games I was able to watch he's still working hard and going to the right areas but the whole team is in a funk right now. They aren't surprising anyone this year and their D has been very average at best. Goaltending has been terrible. I think you're seeing a team learning how much harder it is to win when you are not a surprise to other teams and they get keyed up to play you. Hard to say as I'm an Oilers fan.

This post confuses me. It's written as if he's struggling and not exceeding last year's point pace with only one game out of 8 so far where he didn't record a point.

17 points now in 15gp. T-4th in the league in points, t-1st in assists. +3 on a team with an awful goal differential. He's off to a beastly start this season. He could turn out to be a legit art ross challenger this year.

He also leads the league in primary assists

The fact that he's doing this now while the Flames are playing like this... I honestly can't even identify what his ceiling is in terms of production.

How about this one.

Cole should be booking himself into the nearest burn clinic after last night... was victimized a couple times rather badly.

Well he is a contender, dunno if he is a "legit" one but that's open to interpretation.

He is a great story and has defied the odds but I wonder how long we go until he becomes over rated and is in the legit Hart discussions on these boards?
