Johnny Gaudreau: 2015/16 expectations?

Regression sucks. I can't remember which preseason fantasy guide I saw which tabbed him for 62 points this season, but now he's got 21 games to make them look bad.

Well to be fair to that fantasy guide, 62 points is pretty damn good for a sophomore player. Which would still be top 45 in the NHL last year.

But yes, it's nice to see him proving them wrong :P

Ok , ill be honest. I almost cried when he left BC. Gaudreau as a senior vs Eichel as a freshman would have brought BU-BC to a whole different level

Gaudreau may be the "face" of the Flames but Brodie is clearly the best player.

I think because of his size and flashy plays John is the easy person for rival media/fans to recognize and Brodie has a pretty quiet style on and off the ice.

I think last year Gio was the face of the franchise as the Captain and arguably the best player but he has taken a step back on the ice and I think now he is the leader in the room but the team is transistioning to the young guys.

It will be interesting to see if Monahan and/or Bennett take over the face of the franchise role as they seem to be the future leaders/captains on the team. I think Monahan is too quiet or he would already be that guy. Bennett has more "spark" on the ice so we will see if that translate off the ice as well.

I think Gaudreau is the "face" of the Flames, followed by Monahan and Bennett. But, yes, Brodie is probably their most valuable player. The Flames have a great, young core for sure.

Only 18 P in 30 Games compared to 45 points in 31 Games at home.

He's been improving in that regard though. The current point streak has been mainly on the road.

Anyone know the Home/Road split for Monahan, Hudler and whoever else rotated on that line?

I think gaudreau's weird home/away split is largely random. This article breaks it down well. He produces the same amount of chances and plays against similar competition.

He could have easily had a few more points last night, but I think you could say that of most games he plays...

And another vote for brodie as the mvp of the flames.

With 2 goals and an assist tonight he has beaten his rookie season's production with 15 games to go.

26-40-66 in 66 games. Pretty sure that's like a 100 point pace.

Tied for 6th in points and played a couple less games than those ahead of him. Only behind Kane and Kuznetsov in even strength scoring, which is funny as a lot of people labelled him a powerplay specialist before he entered the league.

Gaudreau now has an absolute crazy 23-25-48 stat line in 33 games at the Saddledome. That actually is a 120 point pace at home.

Ummm..... If he's got 66 points in 66 games and the NHL season is 82 games...... Pretty sure that means he's at an 82 point pace.

He's exceeded my expectations for him. The flames could sure use a prime Iginla type power forward on right wing for that top line though.

Might want to check your math there...

Your math is wrong because your forgetting the game he was scratched is all.

I don't know. When you say Calgary Flames Gaudreau is the first guy people think of.

I´m not an Flames fan, and I sure do.

And nice to once again have an great under sized forward to cheer for there. Theo Fleury was one of my favourites during his time in the leauge.

Brodie is, but Gaudreau is also.
Non-Flames fans and casual observers identify with Gaudreau first. He has a more noticeable presence in Flames games, and his impact on the score sheet ensures that his name is always mentioned when the Flames are discussed.

Even Mark Giordano is a more familiar name than Brodie to those outside of Calgary. While Brodie may be a top contributor, his impact is rather understated. He has flown under the radar and receives very little media attention relative to his teammates.

That play he made on the assist in OT was amazing. The whole sequence was special, but the way he opened up Weber's legs to open the passing lane was just incredible.

Now if only Weber were a 'real' NHL defenseman.

He's having a great year. But he is currently at 9th in 5 vs 5 scoring. Unless you are counting 3vs3 as well, which will of course skew things in favor of teams with more overtime games. To his credit he has been great at 3-on-3.
