The point is not the exact amount of time that was left on the clock, nor is it whether they should have pulled the goalie or not. I am just refuting the idea that McLean's sole reason for not pulling the goalie was to prevent Gaudreau from getting the hattrick because that is just absurd.

I agree with you but the alternative may be even worse. I mean, clearly he doesn't believe in his team. There have been numerous examples last year where a team was down by two with 2-3 minutes remaining, pulled their goalie and at least, went to overtime.

At least try. In the grand scheme of things, whether you lose 5-3 or 6-3, doesn't really matter.

What a december he's got going here. He's got 18 points in 11 games this month so far

Points at home:

1. Jamie Benn (31)
2. Patrick Kane (30)
3. Johnny Gaudreau (29)

And that's with the Flames playing more road games than home games so far. Not bad, Johnny. Now time to take that same level of play on the road at next chance. :)

And another, even strength points:

1. Kane (33 EVP)
1. Seguin (33 EVP)
3. Gaudreau (32 EVP)

Both Kane and Seguin have played 2 more games than Gaudreau.

For a "40 point powerplay specialist" he doesn't have many PP points. Only one player of the top 30 point producers has less powerplay points than Gaudreau, Draisaitl with 31 points, 5 of which were on the PP.

So what you're saying, is wait until he tries that against a penalty kill instead of a 5 man unit?

So he's been pretty much the most productive ES player in the league? Not bad for a guy who lacks a bona fide star to play with.

If Monahan can get his act together watch out. An Art Ross as soon as this year isn't out of the question, so long as Pat Kane slows down a bit.

Had a few requests on some of the analysis I posted last year. It's in this thread nearer the middle to bottom of the page http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=1799567&page=7.

That analysis predicted a 67-70 point rookie year (over a full season . . . Johnny had 64 in 80 last season so pretty close). It then predicted a 80-90+ point sophomore year, with a ceiling of 105 points, staying between 85 and 100 points for most of his prime.

FIRST STAR – JOHNNY GAUDREAU, LW, CALGARY FLAMES

Gaudreau led the NHL with five goals in two games to help the Flames (17-16-2, 36 points) set a franchise record with their 11th consecutive victory on home ice. He opened the week with his third career hat trick – and second of the month (also Dec. 4 vs. BOS: 3-1—4) – in a 4-1 triumph over the Winnipeg Jets Dec. 22. Gaudreau then scored twice, including the game-winning goal, in a 5-3 comeback victory over the Edmonton Oilers Dec. 27. The 22-year-old Salem, N.J., native paces the Flames and shares sixth in the NHL in both goals (17) and points (39) in 35 appearances this season. His five game-winning goals are one shy of the League lead (Joe Pavelski: 6).

Easy points at home. Most are probably 3 on 3. Let see if he can do it on the road and in the playoff :sarcasm:

So now we know he only stacks points against fringe NHL defensemen and in 3 on 3

Why not just ignore people who you know are spouting nonsense? I'm sure you watch JG plenty, as do I - he's clearly one of the best forwards in the league already. Anyone who feels otherwise is entitled to be wrong. [mod]

Monahan is on pace for basically the same as last year. A 60 point 21 year old centre is not someone who needs to "get their act together". You really need to stop putting down other players to try and make Gaudreau's accomplishments even better.

Monahan has not been nearly as effective this year. The puck has died on his stick far too often.

So we wanna bump this when Johnny struggling or only when he's putting up hattricks?

Lmao, bump it anytime you want, doesn't change how awesome he is, one glimpse of his highlights show you his raw talent, a slump is really of no concern, there isn't a player who hasn't gone through multiples of them. Bump away.
