I hope that's not true. Not that the Flyers are a desirable location now, but, if word gets out that you're punishing players for not showing up to optional practices, you're not going to have players lining up at your door.

"Come to Philly! You can block shots and face the wrath of a washed up egomaniac for doing what he allows you to do. No scoring allowed if you use skill"

What a pitch

Funny considering Tortorella doesn't even show up to do his job on game nights.

IF it is true, there's more to this than meets the eye. Who knows what it all is? Torts wanting to see who wants to be here next year by seeing who shows up for optional practices? TDA sulking after being benched?
It's the end of a long season which has most likely burned the nerves of many players and the coaching staff. Probably why Torts is staying away from things right now. Best for him and some of the players not to be in the place with each other.
The season is a nine month slog. Winning clubs are held together by success. Losers usually fall apart with a long of incriminations going down along with very hard feelings. The next four months will be revealing as we see who the subtractions the staff wants to make.

Typical much ado about nothing.

People who hate Torts complain about everything he does, so of course they’re going to make a big deal out of his giving his assistants chances to run the bench a few times at the end of the season with nothing on the line.

The anti-Torts crowd may use it against him, but the opportunity meant a lot to Rocky Thompson, who said of Torts:

"I can't say enough good things about him. Even just this opportunity, for example, getting a chance to be a head coach of a national hockey league team. Something you dream about when you start coaching. He's a great mentor, he's a great person."

Maybe the assistants are appreciative of the reward after a long, hard season. And maybe the experience helps them achieve their goals of becoming NHL head coaches in the future.

But no, it can’t be about Torts treating his assistants well. Regardless of what the assistants themselves say. The narrative from Torts haters has to be that Torts is being “lazy” & petulant.

Thank you again for gracing us with your presence.

Tortorella is lazy and petulant. He has proven it time and time again. Not everything that this organization does must be defended. Who gives a shit about Rocky Thompson? We get it though, he's your hero.

Do you think that it's a good thing for a coach to not know if a player that was called up to the big club was with them in training camp?

P.S. Tortorella isn't going to date you.

Can you name a single other coach who just skips coaching games? Who ditches post game press conferences whenever he feels like it? That can't be bothered to learn about players on the farm team?

Yeah, who cares what the assistants themselves think & say about Torts as a person & mentor, & about the opportunity he’s given them?!

Torts man bad!

And Torts certainly seems to have been following & up on all of Ginning’s progress reports. Doesn’t sound like someone who is ignoring the farm to me, for a guy whose focus needs to be on his NHL team.

But of course a Torts hater is gonna find a way to spin everything about Torts as bad!

Bro I'm asking a question, one you failed to answer. Why are you refusing to answer this very straightforward question?

If it's best for him to not be around the team, he shouldn't be an NHL coach. It's his job to coach, which requires proximity to the players themselves.

The rumor floating around yesterday, which I can't verify, was that TDA didn't show up for an optional practice the day after being a healthy scratch. That put off the coaching staff so TDA is done for the year, if not his time here in Philly.
I doubt that, unless there was something he needed to work on to get back in the lineup and he blew them off after he was told that. But that's pretty unlikely, there isn't much you can fix in a practice. Though skipping a practice (not mandatory, but expected for scratched players, "show you care") isn't a good move to endear yourself with the coaches.

This sounds like something that's been brewing over a longer period, maybe TDA simply refused to take responsibility for his bad play, and Torts just reached the end of his rope. Or maybe they've done some digging and found out he's been partying heavily with his home boys the nights before games, or who knows?

No, I haven’t seen it before outside of preseason.

Why do you care?

If no one else does it, that means it’s automatically bad? Is that what you’re implying?

If Torts suppresses offense, how come Frost is playing far better than he ever did under AV and Yeo, and with all those 2nd rate wingers Torts has stuck him with?

Why is Tippett scoring so much more here than in Florida despite playing with inferior talent?

How come TK is scoring at the same rate he did with G and Couts, saddled with Cates?

Why do I care that the head coach isn't coaching, attending press conferences, or knows anything about the farm team? Probably because he's the coach, and the fact he can't be bothered to do his job shows how incredibly lazy he is?

It's not bad because no one else does it, it's bad because it means he's shit as his job. The fact no other coach does it just shows how bad is he compared to other coaches.

You said "much ado about nothing" about everything Fletcher did right up until he was fired. Boy that worked out.

I don't give a shit about Rocky Thompson. That guy is a nobody too; bending over backwards to accommodate their buddies is one of the many things very wrong with how this team is run. It's a shit example to bail on your job and then bench someone for not attending an optional practice.

Everything you have defended for years, you've been wrong about. Everything you've mocked us for criticizing, we've been right about. Case in point: that user title still in place mocking people who called Fletcher out for being a shit GM.

Torts if not being lazy (i think he is), is way over thinking this situation and causing unnecessary strife. Just show up and work on what you want to with an aim for next year. Don't mail this season in and waste all the time you have to work with players. Instead it's just another bizarre situation with the Flyers that doesn't need to be a thing

Why do young players entering their prime in their first full\normal NHL seasons produce more? Man i don't know

The fact no other coach does it just shows how bad is he compared to other coaches.
If no other coach does something, but you do, it shows how bad you are compared to them?

LOL. Irrefutable logic.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Torts ends up a trendsetter & you start seeing other head coaches doing the same, as long as their own place in the organization is secure.

Granted, most don’t have that stature & opportunity, which is probably why you never see it.

Can you read? Did you read the sentence before that, where I said it's not bad because he's the only one who does it, but because it not doing those things means he's a shit head coach?

Do you think a coach who doesn't coach, doesn't attend press conferences, and doesn't know about his own farm team is a good coach?
