It’s a lie is what it is. Frost-Tippett / Farabee-Cates / Laughton-Hayes. Wow, that was difficult. Or just ice 2 defensemen on every unit with a below average defensive group.

It’s a refusal to admit wrongness. Nothing more, nothing less. Which is a great trait in a coach, especially such a forward thinking offensive minded one.

A coach too stubborn and arrogant to learn about changes to the game is too stubborn and arrogant to admit to being wrong? I'm shocked.

Either way, its for the best right now. They'd probably have a few more OT wins and points if not for his stupidity.

You could even put Allison with Laughts if Hayes is too slow.

He had the Rangers grinding so hard that f***ing Alain Vigneault took them to a cup finals after taking over just by virtue of not being Torts. Probably shortened Girardi's career by a few years having him eat a puck buffet every game.

Even his cup win with Tampa where he played 3 forwards 30 minutes a game and rode a hot goalie and Fedotenko's insane hot streak was a perfect example of what not to do for 99% of teams and situations.

When you have to reach back to 2003 whatever you're saying is irrelevant to hockey today.

Wait, this quote makes it seem like he’s not coaching another game the rest of the season.

Got to have Rocky Thompson coaching; he’s a real up and comer, just look at his dazzling PP work. And Darryl Williams! A 55 year old Vigneault holdover who was in the ECHL prior.

Spare me this “coaching development” angle. They gleefully trot out Lappy in the AHL where the real development happens. And none of these assistants (2 of them nearly 60 years old) project as head coaches. This is a lazy head coach suffering ennui.

would be totally sick if Briere had a couple conversations with Torts and went "yeah, nah, you're not the guy for this" and just shuffled him out. if that happened, I'd have the confidence to believe he was his own man and willing to take the franchise in a new direction.

won't happen though.

Flahr is still being fed. Nothing is different.

String me up for this but...I really like what I've seen from a handful of recent forward picks. I think Brink and Foerster are real-deal top 6 NHL players in the making. Gauthier, I still take Jiricek instead...but he's got a whole lotta sauce in those meaty loins, I think that's Jeff Carter 2.0.

So if that's Flahr's handywork, I can stomach that and see what he does when he has more picks in the first couple rounds and some better direction. They need to do better drafting defenders, badly. Ultimately, it's on Briere to set those priorities and acquire/keep the draft picks they need to stock the cupboard.
