If TPTB have not fired Fletcher, what makes people think that they’ll can Tortorella?

Oh, it won’t happen quick. Fletcher might be gone by this off-season, along with Fat f*** Flahr. Torts will probably last till December of next year. Unfortunately I cannot envision a scenario where the Advisors are no longer in the background.

The cruel reality is we are going to win the lottery...then have the endure 3 years of Bedard under Torts and Chuck. Kid whose a generational offensive talent will be played on the 4th line and scratched bc of his "defense". Eventurally will carry the the team to the playoffs on his back but will fall short bc chuck cant build a team around him. The neanderthal fanbase will blame connor, tho.

Its like the classic "be careful what you wish for" horror story.

All the while playing through debilitating injuries just to qualify for playoffs.

Torts is really gunning to be fired for a fourth time in ten years. He wants so badly to be Pat Burns, but in the end, he's a less successful Babcock; i.e. pretty much just a prick.

Why wouldnt he? He will get paid the remainder of his $16 million to sit on his ass for the next 3 1/2 years.

There's probably nobody on the planet with better job security than Torts right now.

These idiots would never fire him. Literally everyone else will be scapegoated first.

Face of the franchise, after all.

Torts ain't going anywhere, and he will succeed.
He's remaking this team, fast, aggressive, 200 foot hockey. Get the most out of limited talent.
And he'll play skill people if they ever get him some.

They're not going to play like Colorado b/c they don't have McKinnon, Landeskog, Makar, Toews et al.

It's Bedard's own fault for not fighting.

What do you define succeeding as?

He'll leave behind a fast young team that plays smart, disciplined hockey, that can make a Cup run if they land a couple high level scorers - and with his style of play, don't assume they have to be top picks (St Louis, Atkinson) to thrive in his scheme. Torts has no problem with fast "smurfs" as long as they play 200 feet (he'd have strangled Kane but would have worshiped Sidney) - which is why he pushes Frost - he sees the potential to be his kind of finesse center.

I don't think Fletcher understands his approach to the game, which is why I think Torts will quietly lobby for Briere or someone else to do his grocery shopping.

I mean a lot of what you just described has nothing to do with Tortorella because he doesn’t build the team as he’s not the General Manager.

So really what it comes down to is he’ll have a team playing smart and disciplined hockey? That’s the bar for a successful coaching job?

AV was fired less than 2 and a half years into a 5 year deal making $5m a year.

Torts won't come close to the 74-54-19 (10-6 in the playoffs) record AV had in that time.
AV was an asshole. My way or the highway type who didn't even try to work with players he didn't like.
As soon as he stopped winning, the team said FU.

Torts is a decent human being, he's honest literally to a fault, but anyone who's been subject to mushroom management can appreciate his approach.
Note he was harshest with the team when it was winning, now that they're in for some serious struggles, he's circled the wagon around his young players.

I think he's actually better with young players, especially since he's mellowed a bit, veterans can resent being pushed out of their comfort zone, young players come around when they see results.

People don't like the style of play, but honestly, does this team have one player who could play in the top six or first pair of a SC contender right now (with TK out and Farabee at 75%)?

So talent (or lack of such) dictates his approach.
Playing wide open hockey with this team would get ugly very quickly.

That's how you win Cups. Did you watch Colorado and TB last year?
For all their offensive talent, they were also the two best checking teams in the playoffs, they smothered opponents.
Meanwhile, Toronto had it's 5th straight 1st round exit with a handful of Allstars. Coincidence?

STOP WITH THE TORONTO BULLSHIT. I beg of you. The Leafs played the Lightning just as hard as the Avalanche did. Shit happens.

Nope, didn't watch Colorado or Tampa once. I must have missed it. I'm pretty sure you or maybe it was Ghost Beer called most of that series something like boring and terrible hockey.

Good team plays good hockey, more at 11.
