What did you expect? Not only are the top PP guys out (JVR, TK) but the changing cast of players and limited time to practice means there's no cohesion.

All true. However what matters the most is the lack of skills possessed by the guys used on the PP. it moves slowly because these guys can’t major or take crisp passes. Additionally they don’t have the guys that can pop off an accurate wrister when a hole in the defensive coverage appears. Blasting a slap shot doesn’t work; it’s too slow in being made and allows itself to be blocked or caught. Need more skills on the club so that they can play a quicker game

Torts believes playing shit players who give "effort" will some how make the other players/the team better.

Its the same philosophy Berubre/Hak/Gordon/AV/Yeo had.

No wonder this team has sucked for a decade. Amac, VDV, Manning, Macewen, and Lethera would be their collective starting line up.

Deslauriers and Seeler have played every game
Seeler has been our most consistent D-man.
And Deslauriers isn't nearly the disaster some predicted.
Some of this is sheltered usage. But they are producing within the role they've been asked to fill.

It's not just playing with effort, it's producing with effort.

If the team was actually doing anything like a rebuild, players with no NHL future like Seeler and Deslauriers would not be guaranteed spots in the lineup.
Really? Show me some of the lineups on teams rebuilding.

Colorado 2016-17: Comeau LW (30), Iginla RW (39), Bourque RW (35), Soderberg C (31), Mitchell C (32), Beauchamin D (36), Tyutin D (33)
Devils 2018-19: Zajac C (33), Boyle C (34), Greene D (36), Lovejoy D (34)
Devils 2019-20: Zajac C (34), Simmonds RW (31), Subban D (30), Greene D (37)
Rangers 2018-19: Zuccarello (31), Staal D (32), Shattenkirk D (30), McQuaid (32), Smith D (29), Lundqvist (36)

People have this weird idea when teams start to rebuild, they immediately dump all their veterans and start all their prospects, whether they're deemed NHL ready or not. Doesn't work that way.

Rebuilding teams gradually transition to younger lineups, some veterans will be gone at the TDL, some more this summer, some more next season. It's easier if the rebuild coincides with a bunch of veterans in the last year of their contracts.

PS: Don't look now, but what team is 3rd in the Western conference, with GF/GA 66/54?

How many of those veterans were blocking NHL ready prospects?

The Flyers are actively working to get older as fast as they can. Fletcher believes youth is a problem.

That's why teams don't like bringing up prospects unless they're going to play significant minutes.

They get far more practice time in the AHL, where most games are on the weekend, so teams are home for 3-4 day stretches in mid-week where they can practice every day.

They can play him significant minutes. They choose not to because this isn’t a rebuild and the Flyers have no desire to play youth.

You assured us a new age was upon the team, ordered by the mighty Tortorella, and that the kids would play constant significant minutes with a constant revolving door to maximize how many play.

That's not happening.

7) When John Tortorella no-showed a postgame media availability in Columbus on Nov. 10, he deservedly took criticism for it after he snapped "None of your business" when asked for the reason by Sam Carchidi prior to the Ottawa game two days later. A simple "It was a team/personal matter, and I have no further comment" or some such response would have been sufficient. Torts stresses accountability and professionalism, and that needs to be a two-way street. There may be rare extenuating circumstances in which a head coach might delegate postgame media availability to an assistant coach, but a generic explanation is in order.
