It looks like tonight's starting lineup will be:
Tippett-Hayes-Konecny
Laughton-Cates-Farabee
Willman-Frost-MacEwen
Deslauriers-Sedlak-Bellows

Provorov-DeAngelo
Sanheim-Braun
Seeler-Ristolainen

The prospects that are down at LHV that will probably make it to the NHL are:
Laczynski-RW/C; Wisom-C; Lycksell-LW; Desnoyers-LW/C; Foerster-RW
Attard-RD; York-LD; Hogberg-LD; Zamula-RD/LD

If these newbies were brought up, a potential lineup could be
Forester-Hayes-Konecny
Laughton-Cates-Farabee
Lycksell-Frost-Laczynski
Desnoyers-Wisdom-Allison
Sedlak

Provorov-TDA
Sanheim-Attard
York-Zamula
Hogberg

This would mean shedding Tippett, Laughton, Willman, MacEwen, Deslauriers, Bellows, Braun, Seeler and Ristolainen. It's tempting to push for this. Most of this crew doesn't belong in the NHL.
The problem is that the young guys are barely ready for play in the AHL. Let's not kid ourselves here-the step from Junior hockey to the A is huge. The step from the A to the NHL is even bigger. Wouldn't the young guys get embarrassed by NHL players? If that happened, how much of a set back would that be to their careers? Their time will come. Maybe later this season; maybe the next one.
In the meantime the Flyers are going to be a dog shit team. We have to just accept that and look for progress with the guys that matter. Getting exercised by the better players that were traded away for one silly reason or another or the signing of players to contracts that they don't deserve has no purpose at this time. What the fans can do is put the FO on notice that they made this mess and doing this type of stuff has to stop or no money goes from the fans to the organization in any manner.
Lifting your leg on Fletcher and the guys in the FO who put the organization in this position is warranted. As for Torts, he didn't make this mess and perhaps he can help fix it. In all honesty, if he really said what he believed in a PC, the locker room would be burned to the ground. He's been in the game long enough to know what he has on his hands. Most of these guys are bums but they're his bums and he has to try to make do with them for a while.

The only good thing about Torts is (to a degree) he's exposing what a horrible GM Fletcher is. He halted the Hodgson hype train quickly. Demoted/scratched his prized acquisition and extension in Risto. Had his "top" prospect demoted before the season.

Of course he's overplaying most of the trash he's assembled, but it's going to crash and burn.

Torts has no illusion, when you say it may take longer the four years (the length of his contract), you've pretty much announced a rebuild.
Right now he's sorting through the bubble players while the real prospects play and practice on a regular basis in the AHL.

With guys like MacEwen, Allison, Willman, and eventually Laczynski and if they play well, Marody and Brooks, the future is now. Either win a job or move on. When you're 25-26, there is no future.

With Brown and Sedlak, what can you do for me now to shelter the kids and maybe bring us some assets at the TDL.

Tippett, Cates and Frost are all 23, old enough to be expected to start in the NHL, young enough to expect growing pains.

John Tortorella doesn’t build the roster and this is not a rebuild.

Shelter the kids? What happened to all that revolving door talk?

He's not sorting through anything. They're in the process of jettisoning prospects the second they can. Brown healthy? So long Allison! There will be more as health improves.

There is no rebuild, and Tortorella isn't the GM. The GM is a moron who has never done a rebuild in his career, ever, and there is no indication he is starting one now.

We knew they were going to struggle to score when the season started, and that was before JVR went down and Farabee slumped after a quick start. I don't know why anyone sounds surprised - no HC could make this team a winner - but they've definitely improived since the first 10 games, they didn't get blown out by Boston, and a lot of good teams get trounced in Beantown.

Last seven games, CF 50.83%, xGF 50.68%
The STs are struggling, but first you get the team to be competitive at 5x5, then you tweak the STs. It's a long process.

I knew they were going to struggle to score because Tortorella teams often do.

Actual goal production is almost always far behind xGF.

Boston also showed that the best teams in today's NHL work as a five man unit in the offensive zone. This team has 2/3rds of its defencemen (willingly added to the roster, or extended and played night in and night out I might add) suck ass from the blue line in, well it's no surprise this team struggles offensively.

Boston has the perfection line and MacAvoy.

Zacha's a good example of a young prospect rushed on a bad team, started at 19, struggled for six years, then goes to Boston in a lesser role and is thriving so far. Same with Lindholm, whose play declined as Anaheim declined.

I also don't think it's a coincidence that the same length of time just happens to overlap with Risto's deal. Like they didn't know they needed a true tank commander for this shitshow.

Torts is the Elon Musk of hockey. Soon he will issue his ultimatum asking all the players to accept playing for his "extremely hardcore" version of Flyers 2.0 or risk being benched and eventually traded...
The sad thing is, I'm sure a number of players will entertain that and we'll be stuck with more Schmuck Felcher type players - try-hard-no-skill-ARGH-SIIIIIIIIIZE players with no upside at all. They'll be players that management and coaching believe play the game "the right way."

Just look at what they're 'building' in Philadelphia and compare it to the rest of the league. The rest of the league is using a speed/skill/offensive output model and the Flyers are size/braun/checking/dead puck era hockey.

What do you think Gauthier is? Speed skill, just happens to be big as well.
York, Andrae, Toumaala, Brink.
Attard is big but is an offensive first D-man.

Problem is top skill guys are hard to obtain, outside the first round, you have to luck into one.
Fast forecheckers are easier to find in the later rounds, because if they had skill as well as speed, they'd be top draft picks.
Or slow guys with skill (Strome).

.... and how did I know that Fletcher's nephew would be here defending this mess.

Would an easy fix be moving Braun and scratching Seeler? I guess if that's the case you could have both Zamula and York here? If you scratch Braun for extended periods of time, you aren't moving him. I guess you just keep him, and scratch him - and he plays when needed. York needs to be back here after Christmas.

Provorov-TDA
Sanheim-Risto
York-Zamula

I almost in disbelief that Risto is here for an extended stay. He is such a waste of a spot, waste of cap, it's upsetting.
