I've been hearing all about how the next coach will be the one to get everyone to play in shape since Stevens was fired.
They were in shape in 2019-20, until the 4 month break.

Hakstol never really cracked down, as a college coach he was probably afraid of losing the veterans, Gordon certainly didn't, AV did for one year then started drifting. Plus, Hakstol's conservative scheme didn't put as much emphasis on skating.

They were in shape when they came back too, as we saw in the prelims and in OT and in the Montreal series until AV panicked. Playing on their heels was a coaching decision.

The captaincy doesn't matter, but picking Hayes signals that management overvalues him badly. Points to bad management processes. Management processes matter.
How is it a bad management process if they pick someone for something that doesn't matter?

I hope it is Hayes just to see/read all the post saying he is terrible captain/leader.

The leadership role part of the captaincy doesn't matter, because as we know players have affirmed repeatedly that leadership is a team effort that runs deeper than any one player.

The fact is management buys into the dumb idea that captains are magical intangible beings who bring victory, and if they've decided that Hayes is that unicorn then they're dumber than bricks. That matters.

I'm sure you'll continue being obtuse on purpose.

Since Fletcher doesn't know how to spell accountability and that is a hallmark of Tortorella's coaching style, who pushed to hire him on terms that he would find to be acceptable? Scott? Clarke? Lombardi? Holmgren? Does it show that there is a rift in the FO?
A quick look at the Flyers' roster for camp shows that there are some guys on it that either won't or can't play Torts' game but were brought in by Fletcher. When the coach wants these guys gone and Fletcher chooses not to move them out, there's going to be a blow up. That will be when we'll know the direction of the organization.
Torts won't have being screwed over by Fletcher. If he quits, Fletcher is on an island by himself and the club will be ruined.

I fixed it.

Why are we talking captaincy right now? Much as I am not a big Torts fan I believe him when he speaks, and he said he's in no rush to name a captain. I believe him there and I think they'll go this season without one.

As painful as it is to say, Tortorella might be our only ally in this whole mess for the time being--since he too is an outsider and is dismayed with what he sees. He'll find some dumb inescusable shit to do soon, but in the short term you kinda want him to unleash wrath in all directions in hopes it shakes something loose.

He sounds like a child.

I don’t know why but this completely slipped my mind until just now:

They’re going on and on about needing to fix the locker room problems, character, standards, accountability, intangibles, and all that other shit... and they just decided to go out and give up significant assets to add TDA to the mix. Yeah, that’ll help!

I completely forgot they added him.

Don't forget that Deslauriers and Braun will be gifted spots regardless of their play or the play of prospects. Possibly Seeler too.

And that they gave up Lindlom.

Good grief. Goons and frat boys gonna clean up the room and get those talented puttytats in line. I have never been less optimistic about a season. When is the draft?

Baby we're pickin' 9th, the draft is just going to make things feel even worse when the f***in' Devils add Bedard.

Do we know how much Torts is getting paid? I hope it's some insane amount so management has to bleed even more as they decide whether to fire him or fire his boss and make him President.
