It's the SYSTEM!!!
Hockey is not played with 3 goalies!
Giving up the blueline!
Throwing the puck up the board's to no one!
Defenders not closing space!
Fowards constantly throwing the puck behind the net!
It doesn't work! And it's painful to watch!
Thank god it's over---

For those of you angry at Sather...

He is a mastermind at trades. Imagine if the Rangers had given up Stepan or McDonagh in the Nash deal?

He's getting credit for not including players he didn't have to include? He was bidding against himself.

Remember how McDonagh came here?
The Gomez deal?

Yes, I'm sure signing Gomez to a terrible contract, having him playing badly and then dumping him on Montreal was all part of the master plan.

Remember the immediate boost and the playoff performance of Brassard?

Sure. Can he do it next year?

Sather is also almost as good getting rid of awful contracts as he is dishing them out

Almost. Maybe he can try something crazy like not making those mistakes in the first place

IMO Sather is a solid GM moving forward if he restarins himself in plugging holes with big contract guys.

When has he shown the ability to show that kind of self-control.

I am not suprised at all.

John Tortorella's job here in NY just was not even remotely good enough. Its not that he is a bad coach-coach. I think he is a great coach-coach. But the game changes. It really does. And Torts just failed to change. Just like Marc Crawford. Just like Bob Hartley. Just like Jaques Lemiere. Just like most other coaches in this league do, sooner or later.

I've followed this team for 20 years and I've followed us in the AHL and I've followed 2 teams here in Sweden on a regular basis. Torts job behind the bench in NY lately is one of the worst I've ever seen. We where really that bad.

It takes an enourmous amount for journalists in NA to critize a coach for his system. The last time it happend was with Lemiere 4 years ago. Its extreme rare. THN tore Torts system apart. Radio channels in Toronto tore Torts system apart. Dussins of other outlets did.

Eventually, NHL teams will think to interview Doug Weight - accomplished, articulate, personable, popular - for a top job.

I'd definitely take Weight, would be a mistake for NYI not to keep him.

I give the next coach 3 yrs before he's axed for having this incompetent roster 'underachieve'.

FA is the problem. It's too tempting for him to make a splash in FA. Drury Redden Gomez Richards etc, these problems are all FA

I can make just as long of a list about stupid things hes done.

All his FA moves are terrible. I spoke out here against signing brad richards, hated signing gomez and drury, wont even mention the redden crap.

He got lucky with the McDonagh deal, lets not act like either the rangers or the canadiens had him figured as a all-star type player.

You cant give him credit for not trading Stepan or McDonagh, that would have been idiotic to trade them.

If Sather wants to stay, someone has to take the purse away from him. This buying out guys with massive contracts stuff is terrible terrible GM work.

:handclap: Play like the canadians. Skate Skate Skate

Brassard is a career 3rd liner. Yes he had a little streak going, but he is at best a 15/30 guy. Dorsett is a bum. Moore is the only one of the three with upside and potential to be special.

Brass was a 6th overall selection. Be has a lot of talent. He said coming to new york brought back his passion he lost in Columbus. He is a top 6 guy moving forward and should be retained unless he drops off the face of the earth.

For all his bumps and warts, Tortorella did a nice job re-establishing a blue-collar work ethic that was missing from Broadway for many many years. Happy to see him go, but wishing him the best of luck.

I agree with this, as Ive said he needed to change this offseason.

Wish he had a chance to do that. Thought he earned that.

you're forgetting his injury boss

In what sense?

Brassard put that up in a half season, and then followed it up with 12 points in 12 games in the playoffs. He's 26 and was the 6th overall draft pick. A bit soon for a statement as sweeping as that, IMO.

Remember the trade for Clowe? Sacrificing draft picks for a rental who clearly was NOT the final piece of the puzzle?

Don't agree with the move simply because the options are terrible or lateral.

Torts did a good job here. I think he's a turd from a professional standpoint and his tactics hurt the offense, but the younger players are better off for having him demand a lot out of them.

AV and Ruff are not coming here. Something tells me they'll look for somebody younger or on the cusp, maybe from the AHL/CHL ranks. Its not a NYR m.o. , but it may be a course of action with this current team

Dallas Eakins is a hot commodity. Not in '97 during the playoffs but as a coach.

Guy Carbonneau is another guy. Maybe Willy Desjardins.

Imagine Guy, with Larry Robinson and Sylvain Lefebvre as assistants. All ex-Habs. Nobody will score. 0-0 games after 60.

Just say no to;

AV
Ruff
Maurice
Wilson
Boucher
Arniel
John stevens
Tippett

It better not be *** Gernander

Dont be fooled for one second into thinking this was strictly an on-ice decision. Sather is a cunning snake of a GM who has used coaches as shields for 13 years now.

Sather can say that Brad Richards was Torts' idea and he has to clean up that mess now to the tune of a $25M check from Uncle Jimmy. Trouble with the media? All Torts' fault, a new coach will clean that up. Regressing from last year? Not my roster, it was Torts' system.

If Dolan wasnt a ****ing idiot, he'd ask Sather for a comprehensive plan going forward and Sather would have jack**** to show him.

My frustration goes well beyond Tortorella. This episode is on repeat. No plan - just another scapegoat.

Well stated dude and my exact sentiments. Why should that senile old fool have any plan in place going forward when he's accountable to no one??

I don't know if Weight would do that to the Isles. He's pretty invested in that team.

I will forever hate Doug Weight for being the first guy to score a penalty shot goal against Richter.

I want the next coach to put the Rangers speed from the blueline to use. Moore, Staal, McDonagh, Stralman, Del Zotto. These are all guys who can lead a rush with above-average speed for defenseman. Great D speed from guys like McD and Moore. This team has the ability to fly.

I can't believe we might see a team with clean breakouts, instead of either throwing a blind pass up the boards and relinquishing possession, or going for a home-run pass that will never work.

I'm so pumped. It's been so hard to prepare for my interview tomorrow after the news dropped
