Sather has been incompetent for pretty much his entire tenure with the Rangers.

Thanks for chiming in. You missed the point.

I see a bunch of Monday morning QBs in this thread calling the GM a fool for making moves they all happily appproved of Sunday morning.

Well apparently Avery wasn't lying with his tweets earlier this year. Matt Barnaby tweeted that he played for torts and that he was not at all fun to play for. Thank god he's gone.

Fun to play for?

According to reports, Renney WAS fun to play for. Look where that got us.

At any rate, a coach shouldn't be "fun" to play for. These guys have a job and it's to play pro hockey. It can be fun, but the coach shouldn't have to be "fun"

6'1 is undersized? Poor defensive play and lacking skating ability have not been witnessed in his stint with the NYR. Sure, he could come crashing down (mainly because everyone could), but it's hard not to see that this guy oozes talent. It's a good gamble. C'bus didn't plan on giving up a 60+ point guy who's significantly younger than Gaborik in that trade and we didn't take him for one. I fully expect him, however, to come close to that number next season.

Hes 190 pounds, he is absolutely undersized, and he is not very physical anyway. Hes an average skater.

He doesnt ooze talent at all, hes 26, he isnt going to suddenly develop into a great player his 8th season in the league

We seem to be in agreement when it comes to this kind of stuff lately.

I'm just resigned to our fate and hoping that Sather stumbles into the right coaching decision. He's been much better lately, as I liked Renney and Tortorella both, but still hasn't gotten the 100% right guy for the job.

If he didnt have to spend $25M on a Brad Richards buyout, he couldve looked into creating a Franken-coach.

Renney's mind
Torts' fire
Trottier's hand writing

The biggest problem will always be Glen Sather. Until he is gone, I don't really have confidence in this team winning the cup anytime soon. Based on his past pedigree with the Rangers, of course.

I could give a crap about where he was drafted, hes 25 now (26 when the seasons starts). He is what he is. He isnt suddenly going to become a 30/30 guy. Hes always been poor defensively, hes undersized, not a great skater, and hes never even come close to scoring 20 goals in a season. Top 6 player my butt.

Only teams he is even close to being top 6 are those with no centers, aka the rangers.

Blue Jacket Fan? He's not undersized; he plays with some toughness and his skating is more than adequate for a distributor of the puck. We are not yet sure what we have in him (not enough of a sample), but the early returns are 180 degrees from the drivvle your pushing.

But, didn't you just say it's the players?

Sather has flaws. But he does bring in some good stuff in trades. You cannot say that his trading skills are terrible. McD was not all "fluke". They do homework on these guys, same with Moore. Brassard is a player that helps solidify the line up and can do some work with the puck (That's another example). Honestly, the worst thing he does is the free agents, it's terrible. He is not "incompetent" in the full sense of the word. Regarding coaches; eventually, they lose rooms. As the game evolves, some coaches just fail to progress with it and stick to the guns which may not always work.

25 games is a streak. Lets see him score 20 goals in a season first, k?

But yea, those 2 goals he scored in the playoffs sure have convinced me he is a stud.

And Im not saying Brassard is a terrible player, im saying he is a 3rd line center. Gaborik was traded for a 3rd line center, a 4th line bum, and a Dman who could be good.

You're wrong. Brass has been our MVP (besides Hank) since we got him.

I didn't see Willie Desjardins' name thrown in here but once. How do you guys feel about him getting the chance as a head coach in the NHL? Too much of a risk giving a first timer the shot? I'm not that much aware of different coaches, their styles and the overall situation of coaches available right now, but for one I wouldn't want Ruff anywhere near Manhattan... Pretty much the same goes to AV.

What I've been reading, Desjardins did a great job with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the WHL and also with the Texas Stars of the AHL which got him the coach of the year award just now. So far his only experience in the NHL has been as an assistant coach for the Dallas Stars, but some posters in their forum brought his name up in the new coach discussion and believe he's getting his opportunity somewhere around the league. He's name popped up in the Canucks forum as well.

If found a couple words on Desjardins (and Eakins as well), but I'd love to hear some more knowledgeable opinions on him from you guys as well.

We're definitely living interesting times right now and this could go either way, better or worse... It's on you Slats.

“@NYDNRangers: I'm told several current Rangers players believed prior to Wednesday’s announcement that Tortorella was going to lose his jobâ€

You're going to chew on those words. This roster is very competent and will now be unleashed.

Heard the same when Renney was fired. Also remember first few Tortorella games, the Rangers scored a bunch of goals. I wasn't on here, but I'm assuming Tom Renney was blamed a lot for not getting the most out of his players.

Now I'm kind of glad they got stomped by the bruins. Thank you Bs for helping us get rid of this dope.

I see most of you would rather have Torts over Lundqvist cause that's what this all comes down to, besides the fact he never addressed the power play and every ref hates him
