Its Sathers fault that his 50-win team with a 2-1 lead in the CF was beat by Ryan Carter, Steven Gionta and a 40-year-old fat ass?

Heard the same when Renney was fired. Also remember first few Tortorella games, the Rangers scored a bunch of goals. I wasn't on here, but I'm assuming Tom Renney was blamed a lot for not getting the most out of his players.

Renney also focused heavily on the players who were defensively responsible but who had no ability to light the lamp. Torts' reputation was different coming in. At some point he decided that we should try and win 2 -1 every night. If we hire another coach of that mind then nothing will change. However, if we hire someone who will tolerate some odd man rushes against to allow for some skating and flow, this roster (with a few replacements) will flourish.

Bingo. All the cover necessary for an easy Richards buyout with no questions.

At least all the buyouts (Holik, Redden, Drury, Richards, etc) haven't hurt the Rangers. It's just money, and while not being anywhere near cost effective, Drury by all accounts was helpful in the development of Callahan and without Richards, the Rangers wouldn't of made it to the conference finals last year.

There's an argument to made that Glen Sather has screwed over Dolan's checkbook more so than the fans.

Without Tortorella, the Rangers don't get there either. People joke about about his coaching style but several teams admitted to watching the Rangers run and started using a lot of what he used with the Rangers. He's not as behind the times as people seem to think he is.

17 goals is the best he ever scored in a season and somehow you think that means hes a top 6 center.:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

Like I said, hes a 3rd line center who has some value on the PP. Hes a 15/30 guy. Thats it. Doesnt have any of this "major upside"

We're actually judging him on how he's played for the Rangers, not the Blue Jackets. He had 12 goals this year, anyway, in 47 games.

Torts is awful to play for. A good guy away from the rink but NO fun at all to be around. Very smart hockey guy but I played for him and ugh

If people don't think that this effects the on-ice effort/ performance, then you've never played a sport in your lives.

i feel the same way. the guy bled ranger blue and really made a difference. but for some reason he couldnt get goals out of a very-very-very skilled group. in fact, when skilled players arrived at the trade deadline and started scoring, he made them stop scoring. that was amazing and probably the last straw.

He did? Explain this. This is the ****ing meme that gets thrown around here about Torts. It is a bald-faced lie. Plain and simple. He has not, in his entire tenure here, kept a good offensive player from playing at or above their potential.

Trade deadline acquisitions:

Brassard: Increased his production when he came to NYR. Kept it going through the playoffs. Top scorer in the postseason for the Rangers. In both the regular season AND the playoffs, he was at about a point per game; far exceeding anything he has produced in his career.

Clowe: Also increased his production when he came to NYR. More than doubled his point pace from when he was playing with SJS earlier in the season. This continued until he was injured.

Dorsett: Didn't play until the playoffs. Didn't do much, but wasn't an offensive dynamo before either.

Moore: Plays defense. But also got involved in scoring in the few games he played here.

So, uh what? Stop with this ******** please.

Or the team finds a real top 6 center, and he can be the 3rd line center and be very good there....

Oscar Lindberg who by all reports is very good defensively should center our third line at some point next year. Brass is a 2nd line center with very good instincts and hands on the PP.

A player does not get established as a 1C or even a great 2C based on a sample size of 25 games after years and years of inconsistent production, while getting spoonfed favorable minutes. That is completely asinine. Sure, Brassard could become one, but a player rarely breaks out at the age of 26-27.

Actually no, don't think I said that, while it is true he's a top six center that's not the reason. Was just disproving your ignorant statements.

In '11-'12 only 28 centers scored 20 goals or more, that's not even one per team, oh and Datsyuk had 19. Guess he's not a top six player either right? Henrik Sedin had 14, Thornton had 18...

Playmaking centers don't score a lot of goals but it's clearly not worth arguing with you because you have no idea what you're discussing.

Yea, because its much more accurate to go by the tiny sample size than the other 7 years of his pro career.

Another stat you can't seem to get right, he hasn't played 7 years and the first two were under 40 games. He's got almost 4 full seasons of NHL experience at this point.

Im sure he will, because the rangers have no actual top 6 centers other than Stepan.

Brassard is the 2nd line center by default.

Brassard is a career 3rd liner. Yes he had a little streak going, but he is at best a 15/30 guy. Dorsett is a bum. Moore is the only one of the three with upside and potential to be special.

Hate to break it to you, but 3rd liners don't score 45 points.

Gaborik just had another surgery. Hes as injury-prone as ever,

The fact that most of his career was with a perennial cellar dweller didn't affect his numbers I'm sure. The skills are undeniable. We will learn of his work ethic and will to win. If they are up to par, 45 points will be no problem whatsoever.

If by 'spoonfed' you mean he earned every minute of ice he got with very good play from the moment he got off the plane, then yeah, you have a point.

Do you really think you can cherry pick data and use that to support your point? Lol.

Datsyuk has had what, 8 seasons over 20 goals?

Brassard has how many? None.

Thornton has had what, 11 seasons over 20 goals?

Brassard has how many? None

Shall I continue? And I know this is going to come back as "well brassard is still young and developing" as if 26 year old players all of a sudden become great all the time.
