All Glen has to do is fire his coach. Saves his ass every time.

maybe a little scoring-deficient but i think slats has provided torts with plenty of talent. i don't blame slats. aside from richards...but who knew that guy would fall off a cliff.

fire Sather

IMO Sather is a solid GM moving forward if he restarins himself in plugging holes with big contract guys.

Seriously? We are content with Sather now?

Brass was a 6th overall selection. Be has a lot of talent. He said coming to new york brought back his passion he lost in Columbus. He is a top 6 guy moving forward and should be retained unless he drops off the face of the earth.

I could give a crap about where he was drafted, hes 25 now (26 when the seasons starts). He is what he is. He isnt suddenly going to become a 30/30 guy. Hes always been poor defensively, hes undersized, not a great skater, and hes never even come close to scoring 20 goals in a season. Top 6 player my butt.

Only teams he is even close to being top 6 are those with no centers, aka the rangers.

Brassard is a career 3rd liner. Yes he had a little streak going, but he is at best a 15/30 guy. Dorsett is a bum. Moore is the only one of the three with upside and potential to be special.

25 games, including two playoff rounds, is more than a "little streak".

I thought the general consensus coming into this season was that the Rangers were stacked and ready to make another run at it. A poor showing and Sather is suddenly incompetent again? C'mon. What was Sather's approval rating in January?

I want the next coach to put the Rangers speed from the blueline to use. Moore, Staal, McDonagh, Stralman, Del Zotto. These are all guys who can lead a rush with above-average speed for defenseman. Great D speed from guys like McD and Moore. This team has the ability to fly.

I can't believe we might see a team with clean breakouts, instead of either throwing a blind pass up the boards and relinquishing possession, or going for a home-run pass that will never work.

I'm so pumped. It's been so hard to prepare for my interview tomorrow after the news dropped

:amazed: Ladies and gentlemen, the new coach of the New York Rangers... silverfish!

You like that acronym now don't you

Brass has been a great player for us and I fail to see how he is that much of a failure of an NHLer. ANYWAY

New coach needs to know how to encourage offensive zone entry and offense overall.

Bingo; we have a winner! Rule of thumb: a GM gets 5 years and 3 coaches which means Sather shoulda been gone before the first lockout!
About Torts: he is the best coach this team has had in 20 yrs at minimum and the only coach who ever held players accountable.
He played and won with the hand he was dealt and the roster was and is beyond flawed!!

All rosters are flawed in the salary cap era. The challenge is for the coach to get the most from his players. Based on player past performance and reasonable expectations of development Torts and his six goalie system was not doing that. We spend so much energy just trying to exit the zone because of the limitations he puts on his players that there is little jump to finish plays. Ding dong...

The writing was on the wall for Tortorella after that loss to the Bruins. He seemed to have lost the room this season, towards the end. his style just was not meshing well with the players. Of course, part of the blame for that has to do with the Rangers losing so many character players (Prust, Rupp, Dubinsky, etc...) and not getting replacements for them in time for them to mesh well with their new team.

In all honesty, Sather needs to go next.

Finally, Ruff would be a good coach for your team. There are others, but Ruff should really warrant a long look.

Good luck, Rangers fans, I was rooting for you to beat the bruins. Too bad about this season, and may we meet in the ECF next year!

Sather has been incompetent for pretty much his entire tenure with the Rangers.

25 games is a streak. Lets see him score 20 goals in a season first, k?

But yea, those 2 goals he scored in the playoffs sure have convinced me he is a stud.

And Im not saying Brassard is a terrible player, im saying he is a 3rd line center. Gaborik was traded for a 3rd line center, a 4th line bum, and a Dman who could be good.

6'1 is undersized? Poor defensive play and lacking skating ability have not been witnessed in his stint with the NYR. Sure, he could come crashing down (mainly because everyone could), but it's hard not to see that this guy oozes talent. It's a good gamble. C'bus didn't plan on giving up a 60+ point guy who's significantly younger than Gaborik in that trade and we didn't take him for one. I fully expect him, however, to come close to that number next season.

The Rangers would only be so lucky ;)

Umbrella power play unit 1. Moore on the point, Nash on his off wing, Stepan on his off wing. Callahan down low with Kreider. Run it through Stepan. If he has nothing, go to Moore for the one-timer, or the quick pass to Nash with space. Boom.

Traditional power play unit 2 (keep the D guessing).

Hagelin - Brassard - Zuccarello
Stralman - Del Zotto/McDonagh

let's go sonny. Top PP in the league ;)

So some are ready to give weight a shot but I get laughed at when I mention a guy that's been an assistant coach for 6-7 years and has a proven track record of employing a well functioning PP?

Interesting

Wow, this is the best news I could have hoped for today.

I was a huge torts fan his first few years, when he was an effective coach at getting the most out of a team that was not that talented. Eventually his stubborn moronic hockey ways never changed and adapted and he became extinct as a hockey coach here for us.

The team and organization made the right move, not one I thought they would make, but there is no point in wasting the start of next year to see if Torts can adapt, this system had it's chance and our window is closing so let's move on.

So happy I won't have to read the Torts' apologists ramble on and on about one good year and how our team sucks etc.

The right move was made today. I would thank the clown for what he did here, but he has really proven to be an arrogant stubborn ***** who I am glad will not represent our organization anymore. After all we still have Slats running the show, so one embarrassment is enough. Tort's shouldn't let the door hit him on the way out, should be funny to see if he tries to get back into the media again.

Dont be fooled for one second into thinking this was strictly an on-ice decision. Sather is a cunning snake of a GM who has used coaches as shields for 13 years now.

Sather can say that Brad Richards was Torts' idea and he has to clean up that mess now to the tune of a $25M check from Uncle Jimmy. Trouble with the media? All Torts' fault, a new coach will clean that up. Regressing from last year? Not my roster, it was Torts' system.

If Dolan wasnt a ****ing idiot, he'd ask Sather for a comprehensive plan going forward and Sather would have jack**** to show him.

My frustration goes well beyond Tortorella. This episode is on repeat. No plan - just another scapegoat.

We seem to be in agreement when it comes to this kind of stuff lately.

I'm just resigned to our fate and hoping that Sather stumbles into the right coaching decision. He's been much better lately, as I liked Renney and Tortorella both, but still hasn't gotten the 100% right guy for the job.

Dingaling.

This was a huge problem. The system made it that we had to kill ourselves to even exit our own zone after being pelted in the face by pucks to prevent Hank from getting to them sometimes, most of the time, and then people started getting hurt....losing efficiency, etc.... more energy now has to be spent in entering the neutral and offensive zones; the transition game needs to be fixed as well as our ability to produce in the Offensive end needs to be fixed. The lack of quality shots and lack of finishing is a huge deterrent in why we cannot score as well. Hopefully whoever they bring in can improve this, enough to where we don't see them struggling to take a shot.

Well apparently Avery wasn't lying with his tweets earlier this year. Matt Barnaby tweeted that he played for torts and that he was not at all fun to play for. Thank god he's gone.

Who are you talking about? I'm late to the party.
