I think this team has a good amount of talent up front. Richards will have a bounce back year, whether he is here or not. Kreider will be a lot better with Torts gone, book it. Nash, Hagelin, Stepan, Callahan, Brassard will all be better. Fast, Lindberg, Miller, Thomas are not far off. Boyle, Dorsett, Haley, Pyatt, and possibly Clowe will help form a solid bottom 6. They have a fee spots open here and there. But they have the players to compete.

Press conference tidbits:

Sather: "I am very appreciative of what Torts has done here." He said he thinks Torts was a little bit shocked when he told him he was fired.

- Said he would like to have coach in place by draft (June 30)

- Sather said for Rangers to reach goal of winning Cup, this was decision he felt he had to make.

Says all you need to know about philosophy/strategy/direction/system.

Eagerly awaiting the Kershaw speech about how the team is actually terrible and it isn't Torts' fault in any way

"It wasn't one specific thing...it was more of a decision on how we get better and challenge for the Stanley Cup" - Glen Sather #NYR

Can someone explain to me why everyone is saying Tippett? Isn't he still on Phoenix?

Tippett hasn't been re-signed yet, but that's because of the Phoenix ownership issues (Maloney was only just renewed the other day). Tippett is currently building a big new house in Arizona and won't be available.

If Jim Schoenfeld gets any consideration, then you know Glen Sather is still firmly in control.

I don't think Tortorella was a dumb man. Yes, highly abrasive and impersonable, but not dumb. He knew the limitations of the roster, seeing them everyday. I think there was a logical reason why he implemented that collapsing style of defense and stressed puck possession deep.

Yeah he didn't think the team was talented enough to win any other way.

Glen Sather says there will be "a lot of good candidates" to coach #NYR, expects new coach in place by time of draft

Sather needs to look in the mirror if he thinks that John Tortorella is what was holding him back from challenging for the Cup. Delusional.

I read last year via a secondary source that Pierre McGuire was happy in broadcast and would only consider leaving it for a front office position.

I'd be very interested in Dallas Eakins. We have a young team here and the development of three of those guys in particular (Stepan, Kreider, McDonagh) is essential; Eakins has demonstrated with the Marlies that he can nurture younger players. His team's success in the Calder Cup playoffs warrants appreciation too.

"I think he (Chris Kreider) is going to be a good player here for a long time & hopefully becomes a great player. - Glen Sather #NYR

i could imagine there is a lot of chewed up cigars in sathers office with all this decision making he keeps having to do.
