What if I posted this info 2 days ago here? Halleluja - I am the happiest Guy on these boards right now. Thank God I never need to argue with one of those Torts shill apologists again. Going to celebrate with some real fine champagne tonight. Best news since... Yeah a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes yes yes. End of the Stone Age!

You knew HL was patently unhappy with Tortorella?

I am asking, not commenting. What did you say? I am limited with search functions at work.

That to me is throwing a player under the bus.
Trust me, I've heard it, I just disagree with that label.

Also listening to Larry Brooks talk about this makes me ****ing sick. Maybe if you weren't awful at your job, Larry, you would've gotten some respect from the coach.
I think Brooks has every reason to hate Torts, but this feud carrying into his reporting shows what a "pro" he is.

IMO, lots of reasons for decision on Tortorella. Lundqvist is one. PP, overall offense, style of play, Nash, Hagelin, Kreider among others.

Nash?

Sorry, can't fault Torts for his poor post season play

“@NYRangers: "I am very appreciative of what Torts has done here" - Glen Sather #NYR”

“@NYDNRangers: #NYR GM Glen Sather says he thinks Torts "was a little bit shocked" when told he was fired”

“@stevezipay: Sather: "Would like to have coach in place by draft (June 30)"”

If it's anyone from '94 make it Nemchinov, at least he's coached, I bet iron Mike is mad he left.

All joking aside if it's Messier or anyone like that I'll be furious.

Gretzky! And they can retire his number on opening night!

OK, I'm kidding about Gretzky (for the most part) but picking the right coach for a team isn't an exact science. Guys with success elsewhere crap out in new opportunities and vice versa.

Press conference tidbits:

Sather: "I am very appreciative of what Torts has done here." He said he thinks Torts was a little bit shocked when he told him he was fired.

- Said he would like to have coach in place by draft (June 30)

- Sather said for Rangers to reach goal of winning Cup, this was decision he felt he had to make.

"I would like to have it (Coaching Decision) over by the draft this year" - Glen Sather #NYR

#NYR Sather said Tortorella was "shocked" when given the news. New coaching search to begin soon, hopes to be done by draft

“@AGrossRecord: Sather said for Rangers to reach goal of winning Cup, this was decision he felt he had to make.”

“@NYRangers: "This is the decision that I made...I think I made the right decision" - Glen Sather #NYR”

“@stevezipay: Sather: "Wasn't one thing.."”

“@KatieStrangESPN: #NYR Sather: "Every coach has a shelf life"”

Don't agree with the move simply because the options are terrible or lateral.

Torts did a good job here. I think he's a turd from a professional standpoint and his tactics hurt the offense, but the younger players are better off for having him demand a lot out of them.

AV and Ruff are not coming here. Something tells me they'll look for somebody younger or on the cusp, maybe from the AHL/CHL ranks. Its not a NYR m.o. , but it may be a course of action with this current team

Dallas Eakins is a hot commodity. Not in '97 during the playoffs but as a coach.

Guy Carbonneau is another guy. Maybe Willy Desjardins.

Imagine Guy, with Larry Robinson and Sylvain Lefebvre as assistants. All ex-Habs. Nobody will score. 0-0 games after 60.

Just say no to;

AV
Ruff
Maurice
Wilson
Boucher
Arniel
John stevens
Tippett

Oh I think we need more talent (I will be the first to agree with that) BUT perhaps a change in system and philosophy might be something that can kick start a new direction with the talent on board already?

I don't think Tortorella was a dumb man. Yes, highly abrasive and impersonable, but not dumb. He knew the limitations of the roster, seeing them everyday. I think there was a logical reason why he implemented that collapsing style of defense and stressed puck possession deep.

Regardless of coach, this team is STILL not talented enough to score often. For all those thinking the system is to blame, you're in for a rude awakening.

Yep.

AV is not the answer. Boucher is not the answer. Laviolette is definitely not the answer. Ruff? Messier? Leetch? Hilarious.

Welcome to this organization and Glen Sather as GM. Another offseason, another chance to blow up the team.

Can't wait for next season to see what all the Torts haters have to say when, if this roster isn't vastly overhauled, this team still struggles to score.

imo pierre wouldn't come as a PP coach, he'd have to get the head spot assuming he'd leave commentating-- though i think this is one of the few teams in the league he'd leave for(being a big market). wish we could just hire him as a consultant though-- the guy creeps me out
