He's been good this year. My position with him and Marner is, sign them if they give us a sweet deal or wait until the playoffs. If JT and/or Marner lay eggs in the playoffs, you walk or ask for bigger discounts, especially JT because he will be your #3C/#2LW.

As for Stammer giving a discount to Tampa, the accountants on this board will tell you his take home from Tampa was more than what it would have been in most other markets.
what is this obsession with signing Mumbles ? if he has a another bad playoffs , which would make it 6 bad playoffs with us , you still want to sign him , why ? What is it you think we owe this guy ?

the bs about saving taxes has to stop , first off it's widely known athletes pay tax in every state they play , also there's a tax treaty where your bonuses are tax separately , also there's been countless agents who've come out and said there's really not much difference in tax regardless of where you play

but hey let's believe JT pays 25% more in taxes than Stankos does to make Johnny's light shine brighter

Tavares hasn't played better this year , he's played exactly the same as last year , take the faceoff they hang around the crease/slot and let others create for you . The only difference this year is he's had Marner to leech off due to AM being injured .

Woof. What did this guy do to you..??? You are blinded by something, cuz this hot takery and anger is on an unresonably unjustified other level.

He has been REMARKABLE this year. There is some hate blinding you here if you can't see his play creation and danglez are off the charts.

''he's been remarkable this year'' lol he's 37th in the league in ppg so i have no idea what games you've been watching , you must be a relative of his

also you have no idea what play creation is , he's been the same as he's always been , the only difference this year is he's played more with Marner who is one the best play drivers in the league

Remarkable season, certainly better than anyone would have imagined.

I could see 3 x 6m
Given how he's played this season, that would be a steal. I was against bringing him back before the season but he looks as good as when he first joined us, would love to have him back at that kind of cap hit.

We are not finding a better 2C on the market.

ACC above me just called him Remarkable too, but ok. Only 37th in ppg?? Cool.. spread those 30 over 30 teams and he's the best or 2nd best ppg player on every team in the league. That's not remarkable tho.. sure chief!

But no - I watch the games bro. I don't hate monitor from the sidelines. Every game this year he's been more of a play creator than I can remember. You're right, traditionally - he was net front, waiting for opps, pouncing when available. This year? For those that watch without blinders - heres what we're seeing: He's been setting up people with highlight reel passes, creating his own opps through ridiculous dekes and weaves thru traffic, undressing dmen with danglez and even getting a few breakaway goals with some pretty slick hands. I have to admit like most, Im shocked. I seriously don't know how, but homie has had a summer to end all summers and looks like a different dude out there.

ACC is grading on a curve , you ignore JT's production comes from playing with elite play driving wingers due to your close relationship with him , if he was the best player on his line his production would disappear and i'd love to see you post these clips of JT "creating his own opps through ridiculous dekes and weaves thru traffic, undressing dmen with danglez''

He should always play with elite play-driving wingers hottakes - cuz he's an elite play finishing centremen!!!!! You special, or sumthin??

I wish I could post em for you, but since you don't watch the games - you'll just have to take our word for it, I guess.

You are not watching if you think Tavares is not better than he was last year. I got no problem resigning Tavares or Marner at the right number. You on one hand want nothing to do with one playoff failure but are OK to overpay another?

yeah you can't post them because they're very rare and extremely hard to find , lol , Tavares is the Demar DeRozan of the NHL , he puts up stats but his teams never do shit , it's been like that since jr 20 yrs ago .

but hey we'll pick up this conversation after AM comes back and JT doesn't play with Marner

When we signed him I thought he would help us get over the hump. He has not but he shares the blame with the other core members. Not one of them has taken the bull by the horns and won a series, yet you want to place all the blame on JT.

without Marner we don't make the playoffs , without JT the team would get better spending the cap space elsewhere just like the Islanders were

what i don't understand is that you bitched all summer about getting rid of Marner because he had a bad playoffs coming off his high ankle sprain but are hell bent on re-signing Tavares even though he shits the bed every post season

and i'll say it again , the only reason JT has been more productive this year is that he's gotten to play with Marner , it's no different than JT's first and second years here

Ah, the high ankle sprain excuse once again.

The difference is Tavares is taking a huge haircut while Marner wants close to Draisaitl money. Marner is not in that snack bracket and the Leafs need to stop the lunacy of paying 25% more for their stars. You can't win with 3 losers making over $35m in a cap world.

i don't place all the blame on Tavares although i'll give him lions share , i just don't give him a free pass like the majority of this board does

taking a huge haircut means he'll sign for less than he's actually worth , not less than the gross overpayment he makes now

but this is just more excuses for Tavares , the question is why you would want to bring Tavares back at any price since he shits the bed every post season

I'd gladly take him back as our #3C at the right price (see Tanev deal). We are better with him as our #3C and if the 3 little pigs show up, they might win more than 5 playoff games in a single playoffs.

My opinion is based on his play vs. Expectations, which he’s exceeded. His play, IMO isn’t worth his salary but it’s far exceeded where most thought he’d be in his last year. That I consider remarkable.

Now it’s time for him to give back on his next deal.

considering it takes a long time to come back from that injury i wouldn't call it an excuse especially considering MM usually plays well in the playoffs

and it's JT who people constantly make excuse for saying he is playing injured or recovering form giving birth every time he slumps

i told his father you graded his play on a curve , he tried to spin it like you meant you had JT in the Hart conversation

we tried him as the 3c , he did little to nothing there , but i'll ask again , why do you feel we'll obligated to re-sign him especially since he craps the bed every post season

wouldn't you like to see how the ''3 little pigs'' fair without the boat anchor ?

Who said we are obligated to resign him? My position is if it makes sense, you resign him. I think he will be fine as our #3C. You clearly disagree. The Leafs probably side with me on Tavares.

Unless you replace Tavares with an alpha like Mac or McDavid, it will be the same old rerun starring the 3 little pigs.
