Pretty quiet from the John Tavares fanboys front.
He's been invisible through the first two games, he's too slow to do anything and all plays die on his stick.

He's being paid $11M to be a faceoff specialist at this point. Maybe all the vitriol being spewed at Willie should be pointed at JT cause I'm pretty sure Leafs would have a dynamite 2nd line if they had a center who could skate.

This contract is an albatross and things will not end rosy for Tavares over the next couple of years.

Demote him to the 4th line, dead serious. You have to do something to wake this :eek::eek::eek: up because holy cow is he remarkably useless.

He's an actual pylon - I'm not sure how he managed to go ppg this season - he's been invisible in both the regular season and this season. We have to deal with 3 more years of this shit.

What's worse is he has a NMC. This signing really set the leafs back - we had to give up guys like JVR, Kadri, Brown, Hyman just to be able to keep him. Heck we probably couldn't pursue a lot of free agents because of his atrocious contract as well - who knew it'd age so poorly for a formerly franchise level player in his prime

Tampa is a big strong fast team JT is a big strong

If we are going to have any chance of moving on he's going to have to start looking like atleast a good - great player even though his salary demands elite status.

Lot of you don't have eye for the game. JT was a rock tonight and Tampa won't score much on his line 5 on 5 if he keeps it up and keeps winning all those faceoffs.

This is the big leagues now not shitty 32 team league get Mikheyev away from him he can't handle what it takes to be JT's / second line winger in playoffs against top contenders.

Even the Tavares apologists will admit that he is slow and overpaid. The point is, he is still close to a PPG player. His game will translate to the playoffs so I am optimistic he will be useful.
He is protected by playing behind Matthews. Do you think any team in the league goes into a game thinking, "if we can shut down Tavares we can beat the Leafs"? He is an afterthought!

Pylon LOL Tampa didn't generate anything when Tavares was on the ice. The only issue is he had nobody to generate anything with in the offensive zone.

I don't know what game you guys just watched.

He’s not playing the big line…this is the same excuse people made for the Matthews line last year

Tavares’s job isn’t just to shut down Brayden Point and two randoms…..his job is to be a PPG center

Only hope he has is that he and nylander are put together in game 3 and they find chemistrt

My hopes aren’t high though because Tavares has already shown he is too slow to play with nylander for the past 3 months

I've never seen you wrong when you're actually being serious so if you say Tavares is good for the series then Tavares is good in my books.

This is Tampa. People are all cocky thinking we're facing Kraken just because we won game 1. You're not going to be point per game against TAMPA playing in the o-zone like how his line plays. It's not his fault the points aren't coming what is his line even trying to achieve when they're in the offensive zone? Mikheyev is so easy for Tampa to read and he has to carry Kase around too who has been horrible at even strength and rusty.

The one thing he can control is elite defence against Tampa at even strength and he's doing it A+ so far and that is necessary to get past the first round.

Umm.. You don't pay someone 11m for elite defense. You need the guy to give you something. Anything 5v5. He's a f***ing corpse offensively and is absolutely an albatross contract.

11m players carry a line, not the other way around. I don't know what you were watching but this dude couldn't generate shit and on the powerplay he handles the puck like a grenade constantly turning it over.

I just told you what he has brought 5v5 and it's nothing to cast aside when it has the word elite attached to it.

Tavares is supposed to skate circles around cup contenders and put the puck in the net by himself all because he gets paid 11 mil? Tell his line mates to get their heads out their ass first.

He managed to be almost PPG mainly on the strength of the Leafs PP (where he can stand still in the slot and bang in great passes and rebounds) and secondary assists (where he mostly passes it to the good players and they make the plays).

Seriously, if he wasn't playing with really good players like Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Rielly on the top PP unit in the league, and playing with really good wingers like Nylander, Mikheyev, Engvall, and Kerfoot, he'd be nowhere near those numbers.

He's still really good when he's standing still (faceoffs and in the slot), but not much more. He should be our 3C.

No he's supposed to generate chances. Which he hasn't. You'd have a point if he generated anything of substance. But he hasn't.

Tavares is suddenly lucky to play with players like Engvall Mik and Kerfoot LOLOL and not the other way around. I'm done. You guys live in another world than the rest.

Propose how he's supposed to generate these chances the way Mik and Kase are playing. Against TAMPA at that. This isn't Xbox my friend.

only reliable way to get the best out of jt is to give him marner.

i'd be interested in giving that a look. wish we tried that more in the regular season. but yea.
I'd be much more comfortable doing this if Nylander and Matty clicked earlier in the season when they were together. Looks like we might be spreading the offense thin with JT and Nylander being apart I'm scared of what separating Matthews and Marner means for the series. JT is a Captain, Olympic Gold Medalist, and Gud Pro making 11M. Give him Nylander and tell him "figure it out"

A player making $11 million should comfortably be creating offense independent of whatever quality of linemates, making them better and look and feel like they're more involved than a $3.5 million Kerfoot, who continues to shine.

No offence to people here but you deserve a first round loss if you're calling out JT instead of others. Take away some of the dumb penalties and this game is a win and JT's defence today would be a big reason why we win if we stayed out the box.

His defence produced a xGA so elite that Mikheyev was able to ride it all the way to highest xGF% on the team while generating absolutely zero offence. Read that sentence again so you understand it fully.

It's been 2 games. 2 games where his linemates play like ass at even strength. Give the guy a damn chance there's lots of hockey left. The defensive impact he had tonight can lead you to a series win so the hate here tonight is nonsense

With all the penalties in the first 2 games I think everyone should get a pass 5v5 for now including Mikheyev (even though he's responsible for some of the PIMs) but especially JT because of all the hate. There hasn't been a chance to get in rhythm yet. Marner just stated after the game Leafs need more 5v5. Him and Matthews haven't even gotten a chance to dominate 5v5 yet even though the points are there. They can put on a bigger show than they've shown so far.

I think we will enjoy the whole team next game if we can stop the pims parade and settle in at even strength

I've called out other players such as Simmonds for taking dumb penalties. Tavares is the captain, his job is to be more than a faceoff specialist and defensive specimen. He's an elite offensive producer, that's what he's always been known for... always... always... always.... always.... always. You claiming this or that doesn't change facts that he's been ineffective for much of 2022 offensively.

He's been a captain his entire career virtually, his job is to elevate his game to new levels in the playoffs. His job is to produce offense at higher levels in the playoffs. His job is to motivate his team mates, inspire them by making big time plays, score a big time goal.

He's.... not..... doing.... ANY.... of.... THAT.

JFC.
