A player making $11 million should comfortably be creating offense independent of whatever quality of linemates, making them better and look and feel like they're more involved than a $3.5 million Kerfoot, who continues to shine.

I personally would like to see Tavares handle the puck a little bit more and step a few feet away from the blue paint a little bit more often rather than just going in to screen the goalie. Either than or incorporating more designed tips.

He gets opportunities but a lot of them are jam plays where he needs to find the puck in a mess of sticks and bodies... And it has simply not gone in for him. Some of that has to do with uncalled penalties, and really he should be working the refs a little bit more, but I think it is also because he has adapted to more of the Hyman role than the role he was originally playing on that Hyman/Johnsson-Tavares-Marner line... Especially when he is on a line with Nylander, but also when he is with Mikheyev.

He is a great off-puck player in the offensive zone, and is great at getting those tight goals in front of the net, but part of what made him so dangerous with Marner was that he also bumped out into the high slot or low circle with open space and was able to wire in a really good wrister/one-timer or just have an easy open net rather than just waiting to clean up the garbage or looking for a really tight pass reception for a tap-in.

He can work with Kerfoot/Mikheyev/Nylander as long as the "Marner" on the line doesn't suck with puck management in the offensive zone (something Nylander did struggle with during that line's cold stretch), but the dynamic needs to be redefined. Tavares needs to be a little bit more of a perimeter player at times and let Kerfoot/Mikheyev work in tight more often. That prevents isolation on the puck carrier and it doesn't let Tampa just settle in defensively. He tries so hard to bring Hyman's effort, grit, and energy to the offensive zone that he neglects to use his elite skills too.

Maybe Keefe needs to play Tavares with Marner again to maximize the $11 Million faceoff man. Moving Willie up with Matthews shouldn't hurt Nylander nor Matthews production either.

He's an actual pylon - I'm not sure how he managed to go ppg this season - he's been invisible in both the regular season and this season. We have to deal with 3 more years of this shit.

What's worse is he has a NMC. This signing really set the leafs back - we had to give up guys like JVR, Kadri, Brown, Hyman just to be able to keep him. Heck we probably couldn't pursue a lot of free agents because of his atrocious contract as well - who knew it'd age so poorly for a formerly franchise level player in his prime

Actually the Marleau deal cost us JVR. Still to this day I don’t understand the Marleau deal. We don’t make that signing we probably could have kept a guy like Brown or Kapanen.

Kadri had nothing to do with cap. The organization just didn’t trust him anymore

Why do we have to do this? He's still really good.
He needs to produce offensively and he’s not. The whole point of him being here is to produce like a first liner on the second line and he’s just not doing it. I wish there was an argument against that but there simply isn’t. Their cooked if he struggles like he has in the first two games and he will be under heavy scrutiny.

Propose how he's supposed to generate these chances the way Mik and Kase are playing. Against TAMPA at that. This isn't Xbox my friend.
Please don't give me this shit. William is generating chances playing with engvall and Kampf. 11m. This isn't Xbox my friend. In life accountability matters.

He's just a replacement level player at this point. That concussion he took last playoffs was harsh AF. It dropped him from a 7.5 to a 5. Average, as average could be. For a whole lotta money and cap space. How many millions? Wasted. Invisible. Discuss...
Ppg, two way centers that are elite on faceoffs are replacement level players now?

Can we give him more than 2 games?

He's on team paid alot and prob still above average. ..no one player will cause a team to lose. They were not gonna win cup because there are 5 better teams

John tavarres will play every game and that's the fact men. The series tied 1 to 1...let's hope they split the next 2,again. Tampa won cup 2,yrs in row..they are that, good.

The myth of Tavares, two way center appears again. How can you be a two way center on a team that had a ton of players with +s and be 2nd last on your team with a -8 for the year? He’s elite at faceoffs but that is all he has. He can’t even skate fast enough to be an effective back checker anymore.

Imagine substituting Tavares for a top-tier goalie or defenseman in the league. The Leafs would be way better positioned to win the Stanley Cup.
