Very good skater from what I can remember but not much offense.

Yeah, I don't think he's a bad skater either. Haven't watched him in awhile. I just remember he looked pretty good when Team USA won Bronze at the WJC in 2011.

12 skaters went on to have significant NHL careers from that team. Campbell was the goalie.

I remember liking Merrill and Campbell a lot. Lol

I think this trade is for the bottom pairing and that MB is gonna try to get another LD

can almost smell the desperation in the air from the Habs right now

I think you're missing the point though.

Yes, we need to upgrade on Mete and Kulak, no doubt about it. But the bigger need is the hole Bergervin created when he traded PK - and never filled. We have nobody that can get the puck up to the forwards. We badly badly need that. Morseo than an upgrade on the terrible duo of Mete and Kulak!

My point is we need two upgrades. This trade accomplishes one of them. I hope MB makes another trade to address the one you're refering to. If he doesn't by tomorrow, I agree it's a big problem.

Yep missing Toews was bad...

If this team is set as currently is after 3pm I'll agree with you on the rest. So to be continued at that time...
Indeed it's not over but still 24hours and 20 min left and other teams still didnt make any moves yet. There are probably bidding wars on actual good nhl players.

Also with Armia and Chariot coming back soon , I wouldn't be surprised if that's our last trade at all.

So you're happy with Kulak?
Only thing I don’t like about Kulak is his salary I might consider trading him for value like if we get a better defence and that said team pays half his salary. All told your getting what you are paying with Kulak not habs problem which to me is we need more mobility on defence maybe a pp qb

Insert Dunn on defence and Hoffman offence just a gut feeling
I seriously doubt we trade for another dman, especially with Chiarot coming back eventually. Frankly, I don't think we make another move in general. Dunn has been very good lately so don't be surprised if the Blues keep him, he should have been the target from the get go.

Well if Caufield comes up we have 4 extra forwards (probably something like Frolik, Lehkonen, Byron, and one of Evans, Staal, or Armia) so pushing Kulak to #8 and either Merrill or Chiarot to the #7 spot by bringing in another D isn't out of the question.

I think this guy gives us extra depth can play both sides . If I am playing coach/gm I start resting Webber . Monday I still acquire a Dunn or a Murray type defenceman

Yup. Think Weber shouldn't play back-to-backs. And only 3 games a week. He plays MUCH better when rested.

For instance, this week he can play Toronto, Calgary & Calgary, but not Ottawa (4th game in a week and 2nd half of back-to-back). He should also sit the April 24th game, May 1st, May 5th & May 10th.

We're talking 5 games here. It's definitely doable, especially with Merrill now & Chiarot returning soon.

It won't happen though.

Let's say with Bergevin history its 95% sure that it's probably his ''move''
he nevers trade his first pick.
Habs think Chariot and Edmundson are 2 top 4 d-man

Chariot was the worst d-man in the league in penalties and close to turnover before his injury

This one still makes me puke

Devon toews 37 games , 6 goals 16 assists 22 points +22 , only 12 PIM

That's probably 4 seasons of Edmundson in goals.

Yeah, I'm not a Chiarot fan. Hopefully Edmundson won't follow the Chiarot and Benn path of looking good at first only to show major problems...

I added this to the post you replied to while you were replying:
My best guess is we move out a forward and bring in another D. But we could do anything from more than that to standing pat.

Did you think this team only needed 1 blueliner? You didn't think we needed two blue liners - one to become Weber's partner and one to replace Kulak (or Mete) as Romanov's partner?
I think we needed one. We'd have a number one to play with Weber. Edmunson goes back to Petry and Chiarot goes to the third. This guy is fine to add for depth but it changes nothing in terms of what we really NEED.

I still think Habs should pay to move out Byron. Waived 4 times , barely holds on the 4th line. 2 more years ''assistant captain''
That's just awful

Is he ultimately a better player than Chiarot, or can he play RD at a high level enough to represent a improvement on having Mete, Leskinen or Ouellet in the lineup?
If yes to either of these questions, that's a pretty good move.
If not, that's barely a lateral move.

You are right because in a realistic scenario
It should be

new puck moving LHD
Edmundson
Chariot
Kulak as a 7th
Right now we just filled Chariot spot with Merill. That's not good at all

This I can agree on at this point but only if your going to fully use new found cap room
I mean at this point if you manage to shred is salary and use it let's say on a part of an extension for KK then it's good uses.

Right now we could have Staal-Perry-Evans-Lekhonen-Armia and Frolik on our 4th line and Byron wouldnt be missed at all.
