I don’t see many players available that fits the profile we should be looking for as Weber’s partner. Fowler and H.Lindholm are the only ones i can think of. Dunn, im not so sure is ready for tough matchups that comes with being Webs partner.

That's the question.

I think we'll like the answer and fans will come around to this trade. But the proof will be in the pudding. I do ask myself, why was Yzerman so eager to move him out for a 5th? Perhaps, he knew Merrill wouldn't re-sign with a losing team so he had to take the best offer.

Wait for what. Jon Merrill is 29 years old. He has almost 400 games of experience. Do you guys watch hockey outside of the Montreal Canadiens? Jon Merrill will be like all the others depth dmen MB got. He'll look good considering the very low expectation of fans. Lot of fans will hype him to death. But at the end of the day he wont change anything when it comes to the end results of the team.

Dunn is more of a 2nd pairing PMD, but he definitely is an upgrade over anything we have and I agree he’d look good next to Weber.

We don't need to focus on the top 4 and leave Kulak-Romanov as the bottom pair. We need to improve the Weber pair AND improve the Romanov pair.

Habs won’t be a contender no matter what they do at the TDL, but taking out the Leafs in the playoffs would be good enough for me for this year

Dunn was on the market before the start of the season when STL were on top for a while.
I see no reason to think he's not available anymore.
Price might be a little high tho

Red Wings fan here. Tossing in the fact that Merrill has at times played off the right hand side for us this year (despite being left-handed).

For a 5th, I think Merrill is a good depth defenseman for you guys. I think you'll find him to be more responsible than Mete.

Verbeek was good for us in the AHL

He's 23 with 10 points in 61 games career.

Merill is 10x the player he is. And Merill is just a solid 4-6 defenseman.
