Gibson @ 6.4M for 5 other years
His value will be very good
I really think Anaheim need a young Goalie who can play NHL level next year in that trade.
A goalie like Samsonov, Oettinger Hart etc. to start and build around this to complete the better trade
That's a decent idea. Make a trade out east, and get a goalie back. I bet Philly would give Hart, and also something good on top

They have Dostal coming in the next few years. They just need a stopgap or tandem of stopgaps.

Who knows if he will even be a NHL goalie. Trending that way but I wouldn't put the bank on it.

You can say that about every prospect. I'm not saying Dostal will be the next Gibson, I'm just saying a goalie for the future coming in return is not mandatory.

It's a little different saying it about a forward or defensemen and goalie.... Trading Gibson and Dostal not working out would be pretty brutal.

I fail to see the difference.
Prospects bust at every position, its why we have more goalie prospects then just Dostal.

The Ducks have other needs then just goaltender even if Gibson is traded.

I would bet on the DUcks being able to find a starting goalie even if Dostal busts over them finding a second line center or top pairing defensemen if Drysdale or McTavish bust.

I could definitely see a trade with Gibson to Washington and Samsonov going to Anaheim at the draft or over the summer.

Hmm... I think the net that the Ducks could cast is far wider than the 3-4 mentioned in the OP.

I think it might be interesting if the Ducks retained and traded him for Raanta from the Canes. Andersen and Gibson reunited.

Teams that might make sense for a contention retool/push over the top: Boston, Caps, Wild, Preds, Canes and Avs.

Boston is a team that might need to make a few additional moves to retool other parts of the roster for Gibson to make sense though.

I'd be uncertain of these teams because of NTC and inter-divisional reasons: Toronto, Edmonton and VGK. That being said, I think these 3 would be the most likely to pay a significant premium over other teams to try and acquire Gibson.

Gibson makes 6.4 for 6 more years or something. At 50% retained, that's decent AAV even for a back up and Gibson is superior to back up calibre. Retaining the contract to 3.2-4 mil AAV per year for 6 years would suck, but the Ducks could potentially ask for some pretty insane pieces that could actually make it worthwhile to retain for that long.
Swayman and Saros are both far better then Gibson

To Washington: John Gibson
To Anaheim: Ilya Samsonov, Lars Eller, Carl Hagelin, 2022 1st Rd. Pick, 2022 2nd Rd. Pick (Winnipeg)

Eller and Hagelin (if his career isn't over) would be good bottom 6 veterans who can also kill penalties.

Threads like this really put into perspective the amount of people who spout off using pure numbers and anecdotal evidence while completely ignoring a player’s situational context.

Gibson was a monster for the first half or so of this year, he can’t help the fact that the Ducks completely fell apart and have left him out to dry since. After certain point there’s really no sense in breaking your back trying to carry a team that’s so far removed from being playoff material.

True enough but the problem with that is GMs and coaches hate quitters . He loses his appeal to teams and makes himself look like a risky move that could backfire . Of course it doesn't matter if he doesn't want to move .

Yes, but he's in a low-pressure environment, though.
So lol? He’s still a great goalie and he would thrive on a great team. Honestly same situation as demko. Bitch are great goalies and would do even better on a great team. Hopefully both teams get there cus these two goalies can be great

He may falter, if he is pressured in a high-pressure environment like a Canadian team, just as Luongo has been.

I mean you can literally say this about every goalie and player lol. It’s so overplayed. It couuuuld happen obviously but that doesn’t take away from the player and what he also could do. I think, for example, that he would do great in Toronto.

Yeah, exactly. So, what prevents Gibson from playing horribly in a high-pressure environment?

Nothing but you’re stating that just because he’s in a low pressure environment, he has to do good, regardless of the team in front of him. You didn’t state that but you certainly implied it\

And I don’t buy that at all. He has had some great moments as a duck with a good team in front of him and I just think people are dismissing his talent because of a few bad years on a bad team
