Paying 6.4M to a goalie that has been below average / horrible the last few years is a bad contract. He's got the 5th highest cap hit out of all goalies.
And we have come full circle lol. Gibson hasn’t been horrible. The Ducks have been trash and left him out to dry the last 3 years.

I didn’t miss anything. You made a terrible offer and are now spinning it as something different. If it were what you’re now saying it was, you wouldn’t have tried justifying it from an Anaheim perspective. If you didn’t want to be called out on it then maybe you shouldn’t have posted it.
And this is why posts turn to crap. When anger fuelled people who apparently don't read thoroughly not only get mad, but double down on their misreadings of posts.

Hope you have a good day bud, I'm not interested in your aggression and baiting.

He has been bad. One of the reasons why the Ducks have been trash is bad goaltending. Crazy to watch him now compared to few years ago. Extremely inconsistent and routinely letting in goals that he should've saved. Will have games where he looks like old Gibson, but goes right back to stinking it up. His play is certainly not worth 6.4M. His value is just going off name recognition at this point.

Real question, how many Ducks games have you watched in the past 3 years?

I have a really hard time nailing down Gibson's value. He has shown elite level play in the past. He has been inconsistent lately, and that includes the past couple of years. Is his inconsistent play a result of a diminished (almost AHL level) line up playing in front of him in Anaheim? What about before that? Is Gibson the answer in net for a team like Edmonton which has it's own defensive question marks?

Ducks always play late so I get to catch a lot of the games.

How can you have watched all these Ducks games and not think he's played bad? Are some Ducks fans just refusing to accept the guy isn't what he used to be?

How can you watch the Ducks and think that Goaltending is a major reason the Ducks have been bad over the past 3+ seasons lol.

When did I say goaltending is a major reason? I said it's one of the reasons. Gibson is visibly worse than he was 4 years ago. Analytically he's a trainwreck. Like idk how you can think goaltending hasn't been an issue. Gibson hasn't been good & the team hasn't been good. Both can be true.

Lol I have watched probably 80% of the Ducks games during their downswing. The amount of games that Gibson's play cost the Ducks a win is miniscule and WAY less then the amount of game he has singlehandedly won.

There was a 24 game stretch last year where the Ducks only won when Gibson gave up only 1 or 0 goals. He has absolutely carried the Ducks for stretches in the past few years. The fact that he is being knocked for not carrying the Ducks the whole season is laughable.

The amount of high quality shots that Gibson has to face on a nightly basis is very high.

Goalies are often visibly worse when their team is bad, especially when their team defense is bad, and if anyone knows anything about NHL hockey, they know that Dallas Eakins doesn't have good defensive systems, ha ha.

Unfortunately, other GM's won't accept "our coach sucked and our team defense sucked but Gibson is still a top 5 goalie despite how those things affected his play" without some more things to back that up a bit.

The problem over the last few years has been Gibson's motivation, not skill. Especially last season, he knew if he gave up more than 2 goals it was a loss, and the team didn't play defense in front of him (or offense)... so what's the point? He's left on his own so much that he's mentally done a couple of months into the season. The Ducks don't have superstar players that can keep the puck at the other end of the ice for extended periods of time, a solid defensive structure, or forwards that can play defense. Gibson's value absolutely is lower than it was 3 years ago, but it's not as bad as several fans of other teams have suggested it is. As stated earlier, look at Grubauer... went from 3 years with the Avs (star power, good defense, etc.) where he had his worst season with a .916 sv% to an expansion team that has about as much talent as last year's Ducks team and is at an .891. Teams make a HUGE impact on goalies unless you're peak Price.

Haha, angry? It’s a forum meant for dialogue. Because I called out your terrible proposal, it means I’m angry? Got it.

Show me where I misread you trying to justify your proposal from an Anaheim perspective and then I’ll admit to misreading it. You’re just hurt that you were called out on a terrible proposal with terrible justification of it.

Ducks fans: Gibson plays behind a bad team you can't look at his stats

The rest of us: plenty of goaltenders have put up decent numbers behind bad teams over the past twenty years, why is Gibson incapable of doing so if he is so talented?

Ducks fans: do you even watch the games, bro?! Your argument is irrelevant!

Bro he's not a top 5 goalie lmao. The team hasn't been good, but Gibson hasn't been doing them any favors. A top 5 goalie isn't bottom half of the league in every advanced stat. Eye test shows he hasn't been good. Analytics shows he hasn't been good. He's not the only goalie that has to play on a bad team.

He's being knocked because he's terribly inconsistent and plays bad more than he plays good. Gibson is frequently letting in more goals than he should.

(minimum 10+ games)
2021-2022
Goals Saved Above Expected: -10.0 (61st in the league)
Save % Above Expected: -.003 (46th in the league)
Wins Above Replacement: -1.66(61st in the league)
2020-2021
Goals Saved Above Expected: -7.4 (45th in the league)
Save % Above Expected: -.004 (35th in the league)
Wins Above Replacement: -1.23(45th in the league)
2019-2020
Goals Saved Above Expected: -18.0 (63rd in the league)
Save % Above Expected: -.006 (52nd in the league)
Wins Above Replacement: -3.00 (63rd in the league)

If Gibson was playing well it would show up analytically. It doesn't. Like idk what to say. I've watched him play countless times and most of the time it isn't good. He'll have a game or a week where he looks good, but then he'll have a long stretch where he's letting in 3-5 goals per game. Some of these goals are easy saves he's letting in.

Fair point. But only two teams have played with Dallas Eakins as a coach. And this one isn't nearly as bad as the last one, ha ha ha.

I agree that teams make a huge impact on goalies. He's not the only goalie on a bad team though. Several other guys on worse teams playing better. I've seen some Ducks fans say 1st + blue chip prospect + and that's insane. The goalie market already isn't great, and he's got a huge contract & hasn't been playing well. So many more options for goalie needy teams that doesn't involve giving up a 1st & taking a huge cap hit.

If a guy is losing motivation that easily that hurts his value, especially with most of his likely suitors being other bad teams.

Teams will be interested because obviously there is still skill there and they can buy him lower than a couple years ago, and they believe in a better situation they believe he can return to form.

I imagine a 10-25 pick + 2nd(depending on where the 1st lands)…. Anaheim likely takes on a cap dump to help value, maybe other pieces but I think that’ll be the main

There's just as many fans of other teams saying he's worth a 2nd and a cap dump or less. The reality is, he's probably worth somewhere in between. An early-mid 20's 1st, one of the team's good (maybe a boom or bust) prospects (depending on your definition of blue chip, I wouldn't expect one), and another pick (2nd or 3rd rounder). Add or subtract other assets based on the quality of the pick and prospect and add on for any cap dumps.

What?

"Unfortunately, other GM's won't accept "our coach sucked and our team defense sucked but Gibson is still a top 5 goalie despite how those things affected his play" without some more things to back that up a bit. "
Again, reading comprehension and understanding basic elementary school grammar is important. Do I really need to explain how quotation marks work and what they are for?

So if you could make a expansion team through a fantasy draft , do you think Gibson would be the one of the first 5 goalies taken? Three years ago yes but not sure now.

I agree with this. A 1st + 2nd or B prospect + cap dump would be the value I'd expect as well. I'm not going to get into an argument here, but I would call him a top 5 goalie, and he's definitely a top 10 goalie in the league signed to a good deal. Assuming Pat's goal is to improve the team this off-season (not tank further), I wouldn't move Gibson for the package I mentioned. Only trade him if some desperate team who loses early in the playoffs due to goaltending overpays.

How many teams 1) need a goalie long term, 2) have the cap space to fit him for 5 more years?

The value (1st + prospect) seems right but I jus tdon't see any teams would be willing to do that. So I'm guesing he stays because there's just not a fit.
