Sorry to see Johansen leave, happy to see Jones arrive. I'll have to see how things develop in order to decide which emotion is stronger.

Not the greatest value. But there is no player in the league who fits better than Seth Jones. Good job Jarmo.

Please. I'm a wennberg guy. I like him a lot. He's not a first line center. The dude can barely win a face off

Face offs are going to be an issue this year.........we AGREE

but this year is bust......hopefully Wennberg will improve in the circle, things can change from season to season. that was just proven

He's getting it. Draws are as much about knowledge of the opponent, strength and guile as stick handling. Hear me now and believe me later Alexander will be our 1st line center.

I agree with the above opinion that Boone will evolve into our Dubie. That best serves the 2nd line IMO.

I'm looking this as Jarmo prefers Jones+Matthews/Pulju/Laine over Johansen+Chychrun/Juolevi.

My Jackets fandom was on life support. This pulls the plug. Feels shortsighted and reactionary. Jones is fine but I think Johan can still be near elite. He's the type of player they sought for years, the type you draft and develop and rarely get your hands on without a high FA or trade cost -- booted after a cruddy partial season.

buwahahah, Seth Jones is a superstar? Thanks I needed that.

I'm sure Jones is going to get a bridge deal and I doubt he'll fight it. Well unless Jones wants to get paid around 3.5 for a while.
Exactly. He has done nothing in the NHL to demand big bucks yet and he surely knows it. His best bet is to take the same route as Subban and hope he can prove he's worth the big money.

I think both teams got what they needed out of this. Columbus didn't really have a positional need for this trade, but I think Jarmo acted in time before RyJo turned into Carter.

Defence was a much bigger issue than centers minus Johansen is.

I'm personally excited to see how Dubinsky / Wennberg / Foligno / Jenner handle the top center spots.

Also, full disclosure, don't like Torts at all. Never have. Feels like his hand is in this. Maybe not to a huge degree but enough that I don't like it.

Bad bet. Torts will probably be out on his ass within 12 months too.

I watched some highlights and it looks like Jones usually plays his weak side

If so He won't be with Murray, he hates playing his weak side

He plays weak side a lot because Nashville already has Ellis and Weber on the right. He'll be right side in Columbus 100%.

My point was, Saad is THE only target now for other teams. There's no highly skilled threats anymore for them to worry about. And I'm sure Hartnell is going to have a harder time scoring as well. How much offense did we just lose?

This is a joke, right?

Sure, Johansen was a great playmaker, but I actually think Wennberg is better than him in that category. As far as Joey being the only threat, well, there are five or six players with as many or more goals than Joey has (including Calvert and the "he needs to player better" Foligno) and four players with at least double the amount of goals he has, four players were within 6 points of him, and two players had more points than he did.

It's not just stats, either. His play on the ice was uninspired, lazy, dogged, disinterested, etc.

imo, this was a good trade. We got rid of someone who by all appearances, did not want to be here, and potentially fixed a hole. Remember, Joey didn't have his break out year until he was Jones' age now, and dman generally take a bit longer. I don't know why some people were so eager to give 8-9 million to someone who seemed to just want to coast around.

All they've talked about in our young history is getting that #1 center, we finally develop one who can score without trying and we trade him! Imagine what this guy will do when he gets motivated and really tries! 100 pts+. Stupid, stupid trade! Nashville fans gotta love this!

Was he ever gonna "get motivated" here?

a defensive minded coach, wanting to get rid of a kid who doesnt hustle and got a defenseman with #1 potential to build around 2 other kids with #1D potential.

With likely another elite talent landing in our laps at the draft...

Sounds like a good bet to me

This is the type of trade that in hindsight will probably look like a mistake. If Joey get his act together (and eventually he will), he will be the #1 center the Jackets always have needed and will be a top scorer.

The defensive situation needs to be fixed and the problem isn't just the defensemen. Mediocre dmen look much better when the forwards are helping out and also keeping the puck in the offensive zone.

Jones gives them a solid defenseman, but he's likely not going to have the same type of stats that Johansen could.

This draft is looking forward heavy, so a replacement for Johansen could be on the way, and it's far easier for a forward to step into the lineup an 18 year old than a defenseman. Jones is young, but at least further along. But with Werenski next season, they could be really young.
