They traded Zadorov, a guy that multiple members of the media had linked to the Leafs (and the guys own agent even publicly tweeted out mid-game that Leafs fans will love the guy), and the Flames then traded him for peanuts to a division rival instead.
To be fair, Leafs was asking for retention while Canucks didn't

Didn’t that have to do with salary retention?

Calgary didn't want to retain ( certainly an owner decision) that's why they had less than what they could

You’d think McCabe - Tanev and Rielly - Murphy would be getting a majority of the ice time so yeah I’d be confident with OEL - Timmins/Hakanpaa for 14-16 minutes a night.
I really can't understand the love for Reilly, he's been the teams 4th best dman so far this season, he can't be played in shutdown moments, sadly they've committed long term and our stuck paying 7 million for
Not confident about that 3rd pair in the playoffs are you?
OEL has been outstanding and arguably our best defenceman, why he's on the 3rd pair and not Reilly is absurd based on play.

You really like Gourde eh? He's a small guy, who's speed isn't what it once was, and he isn't as effective now because of it. Personally, I think there are far better targets out there. Especially given his cap hit.
Zero interest in Gourde

It's funny to me that the Flames (Lindholm and Zadorov to the Nucks ) and the Pens (Eller to the Caps) don't care about trading with divisional and close rivals, but supposedly won't make a trade with the Leafs based on pettiness.
Apart from Rakell and say...Sergei Murashov...I wouldn't be interested in what the Pens are selling given the likely cost.

But I'd happily trade Robertson and Danford for the above and pray that Clark et al kick that Soo Greyhound boys club level cognitive dissonance just long enough for the deal to go through.

I'd have a good amount of interest for O'Connor and probably Acciari. They fit into the salary cap and would elevate the forechecking, physicality and overall quality in our depth. And in the case of Acciari, the interest is lower but he's a pretty solid and physical defensive center.

Rakell is pretty good but expensive, which we don't have cap space for, and another skilled winger.

Not sure if Calgary is inclined to trade with us, but I wonder what it would take to get Backlund. He's 35 but he's still a solid two-way center who.can be deployed in the middle 6. He's also signed for one more year with a 4.5M cap hit.

Now he’s a sneaky good add just not sure if we’re ready to win now I think we need grebby and minten to be ready for a spot although patches and Willy on the third line with him does sound extremely intriguing providing domi and Knies can be magic with matthews

Acciari would be a nice add, but adding an additional year for 2mill isn't that appealing for me based on his age.

The guy that I would want is Joe Veleno from Detroit. I think he would slot in as a good 3rd line centre.
If it's a Kampf replacement, you are going from Kampf at three years, to Acciari at two... so less term, less money.

What are you offering the Flames who are not rebuilding, but want to win.

Might start with Minten, a western boy.

Geez, have to add Cowan.

I don't know how Leafs do it.

Need $6mm in space. Flames are not going to retain for another 6 years.

Minten, Cowan, McCabe (capspace)
for
Weeger, prospect, pick ...

Again, really comes down to Capspace and Leafs lack of top end prospects.
What are you smoking man.

It's weegar, not tkachuk

Good point on that. If that's the replacement, then I'd be interested in that. The problem is that they like how reliable Kampf is on the PK. I haven't seen enough Penguins games lately to see how much of a decrease it would be to throw Acciari on the PK.

The Veleno trade would be hopeful that he's better than a 30 point player that he's showed. I think the talent is there, but I just don't want to give up a lot of assets for him.
