JEE has first line potential. That's what the 8.0 means. I don't know why anyone is surprised by an 8.0C ranking for him.

He won't be in training camp this year, he'll attend training camp when he comes to play hockey in North America... likely a year away according to him.

Its not uncommon for under-contract Europeans to come to training camp, before being loaned back to their teams. Its certainly not uncommon to not come as well, but I haven't heard one way or another on if he will be there.

Is there any way he play for the Wild this year ?

I might thing he will be given a couple of game pro if he wants to stay in NA.. if the wild sign him already, i think there is a slight chance he stays in Minnesota ?

He's under contract with his SHL team for 2 more years.

He is under contract, but thats not technically hold him to stay in Sweden. I think he is definetly gonna start his season in Sweden, but maybe after his season there is end he might join ether with the Iowa or with the big club.

Not to blow your mind because you have been offering Brodin for those guys but Oak should be in that category.
Yeah with Larkin. Not sold on with Draisaitl, Reinhart or Bennett. Just watching Bennett and Reinhart in highlights you can see how they dictate play. It remains to be seen with Ek as there aren't many highlight reels.

I'm not surprised at him being an 8.0C. I'm surprised Draisaitl, Reinhart and Bennett are 8.0C. Would thought they would have been higher.

Maybe 8.0B, but certainly not 9's. Draisaitl, Reinhart and Bennett were at the top of what was considered a very weak draft. They're going to be good players for sure, but they're no Ekblad, RNH, MacKinnon or Hall.

That's exactly what I'm saying: 8.0B. Maybe 8.5C. I look at Bennett and I see insane talent. He's definitely ahead of Reinhart and Draisaitl IMO.

Which doesn't mean much, as there is a transfer agreement in place to allow players with contracts to come over to the AHL/NHL anyway.

According to Ek, he'll spend this season in Sweden, then come to North America the season after.

I'm not aware of any Wild prospect Euro's who have attended training camp in their history, who planned to play in Europe.

Not saying it can't happen, just that with this franchise it has never happened.

I do agree that Bennett is ahead of Draisaitl and Reinhart. That's one thing on these boards that kind of puzzled me is how much more highly those two are valued than Bennett.

This. Too much given to draft position.

8.0 is truly insane for rating for Ek. Does not reflect well on the person who is giving these ratings...

Or your comment reflects well on how little you know about JEE.....

Your post doesn't reflect well either...

I'll be the first to admit to not knowing a whole lot about Oak compared to some of the other players drafted in the first round. What I do know is that Fletcher is batting 1000 in the first round of the draft thus far, and the more I learn about Oak, and the more I see him (showed some very nice flashes in the 2nd development camp Scrimmage), the more I see this kid is so much more than his SEL stats show him to be, and more than even what I've read thus far in his scouting reports.

This kid has very good offensive instincts that catches players off guard on the ice. One moment, he looks like he's got no room to maneuver, the next he somehow squeezed through a gap that didn't look like was even there, and somehow came through it with the puck still on his stick to get off either a nice shot or nice pass! He's a top player for sure when competing against his own age group at this point.

I still don't have a great read on where I think he'll end up... but I think he's got a little bit of Koivu in him and a little bit of Granlund as well.

I see the 8.0 rating, and I don't think anything I saw could dispute that possibility.

People need to read this before they go bonkers over the rating. Expanded: 8.0C means he has 1st line potential but can drop two ratings lower.

For the 8.0 rating:

"8. First-Line Forward/ No. 2 Defenseman / No. 1 Goaltender – players with definite skill that might be just a cut below elite status, but still possessing All-Star potential."

So somebody here thinks Ek has allstar potential? Come on people, be realistic. Mid 6 tops, similar to Coyle.

You are entitled to your opinion.

I really don't pay attention to the HF ratings, they suggest a quick definite value when in reality, its very subjective AND continuously changing (fitness level, coaching, team environment, confidence etc etc AND MORE etc).

I rather just say he's a potential top six two-way forward with a good chance of him being a 3rd line player.

JEE has been one of the top goalscorers when playing within his own age group and among peers. He does this while playing a great two way game, having great size, and brings leadership. Just look at the numbers they speak for themselves.....

Sweden Under 18 Team 18gp 15g 7a 22pts

WJC U-18 5gp 5g 1a 6pts

Farjestad J18 Allsvenskan 14gp 6g 9a 15pts

Farjestad J18 Elit 19gp 16g 9a 25pts

Has been absolutely dominate among his age group....

How does this compare to other players in these leagues? (curious)

Some leagues are higher scoring than others or are dominated more by high-end players, so stats alone don't tell much if you don't know the league.

From what little I've seen, Ek makes it look easy - to me a sign of high hockey IQ. Given his natural gifts of size, skating, and shot, 8.0C seems about right. I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do next season in Sverige, playing for the team of Brodin, and one of my old favorites, Rickard Wallin, who still plays there.

These stats reflect when he was playing with players in his age range. Can't wait to see him at the wjc this year. Going to be a big part of team Sweden.

I know, the question was more 'where does this rank in the league?'
