Doesn't mean a whole lot I don't think - would assume he's still going to play a season in the SEL this year. Good to get him signed, though.

I believe he's still under contract to Farjestad for another 2 years, so we'll probably see him in North America starting in 2017-18.

So what does him signing mean? Will he play in Sweden or in the AHL next year?

It means JEE has a shiny new 90k Bonus check in his pocket, and if he gets hurt during training camp, he gets paid an NHL salary.

Other than that, not a whole lot. He'll head back to Sweden baring something drastic.

How does that work?

Thanks for the responses :)

Similar with Brodin. Signed, loaned to SEL, then came to NA soon after. So JEE will probably play 1 or 2 more years in Sweden before coming to the AHL (leaning towards 1).

I hope he takes a similar flight path as Brodin. Would be awesome to have a big top 6 center under 21 in the NHL. Would bump Koivu to 3C and Coyle to RW. Would make me very happy at least

Assuming the Wild bring him over for training camp, if he happened to get hurt the Wild would have to "roster" him until he's cleared from his injury and they could then loan him to the SEL. He would get paid his NHL salary during this time(but it wouldn't burn a year of his ELC, because he has to actually play in 10 games for that to happen)

Similar things happen to Minor leaguers every year, get nicked up in training camp and they don't get sent down until they are cleared.

So does anyone know why is last name has a space in it, I've never seen it before.

Is it just another way to have a hyphenated last name or does it have nothing to do with mother + father last name?

I just assumed it was one name. Like you'll with Dutch last names (Van der _______)

If it was mother+father's last name, I'd think there'd be a hyphen.

His mothers name is Ek = Oak in Swedish. It's a fairly common name in Sweden. Eriksson is his father's name.

His name could be read as Joel, son of Erik, the Oak. Quite badass.

Also, can we call him Prof. Oak, or just Oak from now on? ...Please?

 It's cool, but I think saying the whole thing every time, "Joel, son of Erik, the Oak" is necessary to keep it being cool. Or maybe calling him "The Oak." Oak is a name. The Oak is a title.

At the scrimmage they pronounced Joel as "Yule". I think I'm going to stick with "Jole" hahah

Hearing him talk at development camp, sounds like he wants to play in Sweden this year and come to North America next year.

Doesn't matter about his contract in Sweden, there is a transfer agreement that already covers that if he comes over while under contract.

He won't be in training camp this year, he'll attend training camp when he comes to play hockey in North America... likely a year away according to him.

Didn't expect HF to give Ek such a high grade (8.0 C).
Was a bit surprised too. For instance Draisaitl, Reinhart, Bennett, Larkin, and Nylander all have the same prospect rating.

Sounds good to me :)
