Probably after his contract is up, so 2 years. I know Koivu played 3 post-draft, Granlund played 2 and Brodin played 1, so who knows.

I may be mistaken, but wasn't the 3rd year after Koivu's draft due to the lock-out?

Agreed. His skating was adequate but he's starting to get Heatley bad.

But back on Ek, I am interested to see when Minnesota brings him in? 4 years?
Don't forget that the Wild have made Koivu play heavy over his career. Put him on the ice 4 less minutes a game and his skating will improve.

I think Ek will have 2 more years in Sweden and at least a year in the AHL. However, the Wild may want him over as soon as 16/17 season.

Maybe. We'll know better after prospect camp. And then the one after that, and the one after that if it goes that far. Not all prospects require the same path.

No, but we've seen what a year in the AHL can do to a prospect, especially a forward prospect. No reason to rush him.

Reminds me of Zibanejad. Joel had better numbers in J20 tho

Could be the homer in me but I like EK's offensive potential more than Zibanejad.

Not sure why everyone sees this pick as so vanilla. In a worse draft year, EK could have been a top ten pick.

He'll play out his contract in SWE, I believe two more years and likely one or a half year in Iowa... Maybe not tho, could play well in camp and stick w the big boys. I see him playing by no later than 2018/19 w Wild, possible 2017 ish

The two players that Murray was after for the 21st pick was either White or Joel.

I like the comparison with Joel and mika, risers who are very raw. Both Joel and Mika have a powerful stride and heavy shot, both have defensive awareness and are thought to be shoot first centres. I agree I expect Joel to finish his years in Sweden and spend half a year in the AHL.

I'm kinda digging the Detroit moddo for this guy. wait until he is 'over ripe' to bring him up into the show. I'd rather play a 22-24 year old stud than a 20 or 21 year old guy who gets his confidence ruined.

Before the draft I had seen Ek compared to Silfverberg/Zibanejad stylistically.

When I watch those vids, the strongest comparison I see is Sedin(s). There is nothing overtly flashy, yet you are left wondering how they just did that. He makes it look easy. I never understood how the Sedins did it, but they do.

Watching the scrimmage, his style of play and skating reminds me of Toews. Clearly he's not the prospect Toews was, but he looks similar out there and was very active defensively and always in good position. Like Toews he isn't flashy at all but always makes right play. Really like this pick after seeing him live.

I really like his skating. He isn't explosive or speedy but he has great balance, edges, and has a smoothness about him that lets him set up for the next play so easily. Really reminds of a M.Koivu when he didn't get old and lose his step from a two-handed chop from Ohlund (still bitter about that).
