Who cares about retention. Habs are not competing for another 10 years at this rate. HuGo selected 4 times in the top 60 in 2 drafts in a rebuild year.

This management thinks it can build the only contender ever by not drafting talent.

It's not about retention with the idea to compete now. You still can make moves NOW for the future why you still need money now.

Didn't expect more. Anything above would have been highway robbery. Hugo couldn't trade this guy, he was hurt, slow and past his prime. Other D are pushing. What really bothers me though is giving up a first and second for Newhook or holding on to Eddy while his value was high.

Some people in this thread seriously need a reality check. The fact that we got anything in return for Edmundson even at 50% retained is in itself amazing and tells you just how much NHL GM's still overvalue size and "toughness". Guy has been one of the worst 5v5 defenders in the league for two seasons in a row now, and is still worth draft picks just because he's 6'5" tall and still somewhat healthy enough to cause other players back problems in the future with his cross checks. I wish him good luck though, but we'll instantly become a better team just by not having him play 18 minutes per game for us

Moving Edmundson means more ice time for Harris, Guhle, Barron, Xhekaj & Kovacevic. I think that's important if their development is going to progress
Matheson, Savard & Wideman to be our vets and provide veteran leadership and stability. That's 8 guys on the blueline

We might also see HUGO use the cap space to grab another Dman. But I prefer the kids get the ice time.

Struble, Norlinder, Trudeau, Beaudin, and Mailloux maybe get a shot if we run into injuries.

I'm going to let Newhook tie his skates up as a Hab. Before I jump all over this trade.
