I’m merely stating the facts, if that portrays him as a terrible hockey player then he needs to change that reality

IF he’s healthy, IF he finally becomes consistent, IF he’s given Top 6 minutes and PP time all year, there’s just too many excuses for the guy

I’ll be the first one at the dining table to eat crow if he earns his contract his season
What does it take to earn a 3.4M contract in today's NHL? people are acting like he needs to be a consistent top-6 point producer for that contract to be just okay value.

Armia lacks consistency. Otherwise, he'd be a bigger point producer than Lehkonen and would be getting more than Lehky is getting with COL -- and that's an overpaid player with his new contract after winning the Stanley Cup.

...it takes more than just showing up for one out of 10 games a season...Lehky is five times the player Armia is because he puts in the effort on every shift of every game...

I’d be happy with top 9 points production but he was no where near that on the Habs last season.

To keep it simple let’s say $100k/per point to earn his contract, if he can get 34 pts playing 3rd line and PK I’d be ok with that as the floor

But he has to show up at camp in shape and stay healthy and get minimum 34 actual points, not play his usual 50-60 games and pace for it

The problem with Armia is between his ears but it is not necessarily a hockey IQ deficit as many on here suggest. When he is on he is very good at diagnosing plays on both sides of the puck. The problem is more likely some kind of anxiety/depression/ADD etc. I am obviously not qualified to diagnose him but he seems to get tunnel vision and some form of intuitive paralysis when he is struggling. When he is on he is mapping the ice around him very well and finding back door cutters and weakside options as well as intercepting passes and breaking up plays with his anticipation. Hockey IQ doesn't come and go but the afflictions that I mentioned do come and go depending on the environment that the person is immersed in.

Joel likely needs some intensive counselling and perhaps more in order to find consistency at the apex of his game. It almost seems that when he does well expectations rise and that triggers the inner workings that result in the poor play.

This of course is only based on my observations and I am not an expert but have worked with many athletes who have similar patterns and later found out that they had some of the afflictions that I mentioned.

The habs have a lot of players who can do really well as long as someone else is carrying the puck and keeping the opposing defense busy. Armia, like Drouin, Hoffman, and many other habs will look good if we have centers who can make space and defense who can carry the puck.

The easy part of the team is built and, unfortunately, takes up the whole cap. The habs need the hard to acquire players and have no money to sign them. By the time they get those players the supporting cast will have been replaced.

I agree with the overall narrative. Last season, we headed into that season with "one of the best winger groups in the NHL" type narrative. Remember that? Well, it didn't result in what we thought and that was for many reasons (injuries, team confidence, turnover, Ducharme, etc). However, it appears that the wingers could not shelter the centers.

I think we do need to make a trade and Armia might be the guy. Hard to say cause it will come down to cost to move one guy to clear cap cause so many teams are trying. Teams will cap space will use their leverage.

However, I think whoever stays will have better seasons if we stay away from injuries and I do think our centers are better this year vs last season. Things will be different and too many Habs fans are too afraid to admit it.

Whatever the reason, it becomes a question of confidence for Armia, I think.

One of the best groups of complementary wingers. The habs need more guys who want to jostle with the D, who retrieve and carry the puck, fewer guys who thrive with open space.

It's a really bad time to try to dump salary. Teams that need players have no space, teams that have space are mostly tanking or looking to get paid to take on salary. It's a very bad time to be capped out with fairly useful players that the habs need to get value for.

I’ll interject with an old baseball analogy for us geezers: swings like Mickey Mantle, hits like Tom Tresh!

Whenever Armia ´feels’ like playing, he looks like a dominant force on the ice.
At this point, he is the most frustrating player to watch.
Not saying he has the same tools, but his lack of commitment combined with his legit 2nd line player reminds me how I sometimes loved Andrei Kostytin, but most of the time got aggravated with his laziness.
So…. Until he reaches to final year of his contract, and has to show up’ for the next one ; I’m expecting him to keep on last season’s cruise control

...why bother??...we are gonna be bad for a couple/few years anyways, so why waste the dead Cap space??...
I wouldn’t bet against Hughes who appears to shun buyouts as a cap relief option.

Hate is a strong word.

Armia is currently, simply a body wearing a jersey. Seriously overpaid.
I stand by it. f*** this lazy cow and his bloated contract. Disgrace to the CH. It's like Dwight King is back.

Could have brought back Perry and used that expansion slot by giving him a used toothpick for Jared McCann which makes us not trade for Dvorak.
