What's new with this crappy League ?

Armia might be gone for weeks, even months..... Myers will play Saturday night.

I hope Molson and Bergevin are raising hell about this one.

Not even a single game suspension. That's crazy.

Have not seen any updates about Armia other than he's out indefinitely.

When will he be placed on IR or has that happened already?

Is Armia not officially on IR yet?

That was my question as well. How fast can you move a guy to IR? With a concussion, do they have to follow protocol and can only move him to IR after he fails a few steps? Hate to see him hurt but having him sit on our roster as day to day is wasted cap.... space we need! Especially if we plan on making some moves at the deadline.

Believe they can backdate placing a player on IR to the last game played, have seen other teams doing that.

Encouraging..........any reports on his situation?

If he skated today, he's probably passing protocol steps so far. I don't think they rush this with Perry in his spot.

How does IR work in cases like this? He's not on IR from what I can tell and I'm wondering if day to day injuries can't be moved to IR unless they are there for a certain period of time?

Anybody know the rules around this?

They would only need to put him on IR to free up a roster space. since they were operating at 21 and max is 23 they did not need to do this to recall Perry. Putting him on LTIR would generate some salary Cap relief but he has to stay on it for some time- not sure how long- maybe 10 games. I guess they hope he is back before then.

Finally LTIR is used after bonus pool. If Habs get in situation where They use LTIR any bonus earned by those with ELC bonus (KK/Suzuki/Romanov) would likely end up being a carryover to next years cap as a bonus overage. Barring a real long term injury to someone with a significant salary ($4-5M range) Habs are likely better off to try to manage without using LTIR.

Edit: that was why it was so impt to send ELC guys down for a few days early to generate enough Cap relief that Perry could be used without putting anyone on LTIR. They should be able to avoid LTIR as long as they can have no more than 2 guys injured with ST injuries.( Mete + one call up as reserves) They are walking a fine line

Isn't there a difference between IR and LTIR? I found this article. Fun With the CBA! IR, LTIR, and Emergency Recalls

Looks like Perry was an emergency call up and did not count on our cap. If Armia is placed on IR (not LTIR), he has to be injured for more than 7 days from what I am reading in that article. Read it quick so if you see something I don't, let me know. I'm going to circle back and read is more carefully later.

Yes IR just creates a roster spot and player must spend 7 days on it, can be placed on retroactive to day of injury - no Cap relief
LTIR creates roster spot and Cap relief but Cap relief is complicated- must be on LTIR for 10 GAMES
Emergency recall can only be used if team has No cap space to call anyone up and they have played at least one game without a full roster 12-6-2. Perry was not emergency recall

Habs have enough space to call Perry up. Currently have 724K of Cap space. Perry's contract is for 750 but about 2 weeks have passed. so really only need about 660K of space to get him up. His remaining salary for 116 day season with 2 weeks gone is (116-14)/116 times 750K or 659K. By sending Perry back to taxi squad on offg days they only use cap space on game days too so it will continue to grow the cap space available slightly.

want to avoid LTIR if you can as that will create a bonus overage next year.

Interesting things to manage around for sure. I thought I seen Perry being an emergency call-up though? Can't remember where I saw that. Maybe one of Lebrun or Friedman's tweets? :dunno:

Edit: Found it..

I assumed he wasn't and I think he wasn't because they had healthy body in Mete which would have prevented emergency recall. I did read somewhere that this year with Covid teamns do not need to play a man short for one game before emergency recall available. It is possible if Byron couldn't go and Mete was in for him then Perry would have been emergency recall. Again I may be wrong as the rules have been modified this year a bit and I still don't understand them completely. Teams Capologists will earn their money this year juggling the cap implications of Short term absences and taxi squad.

Looking at Daily Cap tracker on Capfriendly, Perry did count against Cap for $6,466 for the day he was on roster (750K X 1 day over 116) but he was listed as emergency recall so they did not use up one of his 10 games or 30 roster days that would require him to clear waivers again. This stuff is complicated.
