See you guys in a few weeks

I had the high ankle sprain injury. It's gonna be more than 2 weeks to heal, as it's an unpredictable injury like a concussion in that regard. You can't feel 99% right on a high ankle sprain and play. Woll is gonna have to wait till he's pain free and then have to strengthen the ankle. Then he has to push it little by little in goalie drills on his own and then start practicing with the team. I would be surprised if he back in a month.

Relatively good news.

Anecdotally, I had a sprain when I was doing forestry work I couldn't put weight on, about 5 days later I was good to go; I had a sprain playing soccer I couldn't put weight on for 2 months. Bottom line is there really is no gauge for how long these things take heal.

I would think it's about as good as it gets for a goalie. I'm no expert but I'm thinking the two worst injuries for a goalie are knee and groin.
Nope, high ankle is worse and I have had all three! Groin, if not severe you can play with a groin wrap on it. Knee depending on the severity, you can wear a brace. High ankle, you can't do anything until it's fully healed and you still have to strengthen it, even if a minor high ankle sprain.

I wonder if this is the same ankle he injured last year.
If it is, that is worse than having it on the other leg.

Yup. It's the worst injury a goalie can have because a goalie relies so much from pushes with their skates. With weakness in your ankle area, you have no strength on your pushes.

My thought was a bad groin tear. With an indicator for tear propensity.

Physiotherapy at a later stage is of crucial importance, especially for professional athletes, as rehabilitation exercises will help you achieve full strength to your adductor muscles.

Recovery time varies significantly on the position of the tear, and the severity of the tear. Manual treatment can improve recovery, as will a home exercise programme. If the tear is high on the adductor tendon, recovery can be significantly slower and take approximately 12-16 weeks. A tear to the mid-belly of the muscle will typically take between 4 and 12 weeks to heal depending on the severity of the tear.

In rare circumstances, you may require crutches to assist your walking.

Crosby had a high ankle sprain and he never quite returned to the same level of speed and agility. This could end up being a lot worse than we would hope but he should still recover pretty close to 100% if all goes well.

Yep, I had one, it took 5 days for the swelling to go down. I couldn't put any weight on it, with out considerable pain, for at least two weeks. It was close to a month before I could walk normal with a little pain. I slept on the couch for 3 weeks because my wife would move the bed when she tossed and turned and the movement of the bed was so painful I could barely sleep. My Dr. said I would have been better off if I had broke my leg vs what I did, she said I would have experienced less pain and a break would probably heal faster. If I base it on my experience he is 8 to 10 weeks away. You make a good point about getting his strength back, my foot felt like a weight hanging on by a few string , lots of weakness, it felt bruised even after the bruising on my skin went away.

I'd rather he take longer to heal, if need be. The Leafs won't need him for most of the regular season. Samsonov and Jones will be fine as a tandem.

How confident in that are you? Sammy was good last night, but for the most part has been awful all season plus he's injury prone himself.

Jones hasn't been good in about 5 years.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a goalie trade at some point

I think no chance they trade for a goalie. Samsonov will give them .915 goaltending, with Jones as a fill-in where necessary. I get that you are down on Samsonov, but you are basing that on a handful of bad games. The reality is that over the course of 40 or 50 games he has produced very good numbers. He has done that over the last 4 or 5 games, and I believe he will continue to do it because the team around him has improved its play.

I hope so, Sammy looks smaller in the net this year... Jones is .... well ... not very good. Maybe if we dont give up 35 shots a night, play like we did Saturday we will have a chance. Outside of Boston have we really played any good teams? We are going to find out what this team is made of.

Other than a couple of games against the Rangers and one against the Kings, the schedule stays pretty easy for the next couple of months, but starts to get more difficult in February. I don't have any concern about Samsonov. Too many people have written him off after a handful of poor games at the start of the season. He has been much better in his recent games, and I expect that trend to continue.

Man, the team needs Woll back desperately. They are literally f***ed if Jones can not hold the fort until he is back. Samsonov is a write off.
