That was an ankle?... derr

Sure.
As a very bad goalkeeper in my youth. There is a lot of torque on your ankle going into and out of the butterfly.

They have changed the pads to try to keep your feet more downward (toes pointed to the ice) vs flat like the splits.

But if his toe got caught it’s easy to do.

A high ankle sprain can be a twisting motion from the actual ankle to the below the knee along the calf.

I think he had an ankle injury before too right?

It’s bad news. Like 3 months off bad news

He’ll be back and hitting his stride for the stretch run. We can only hope Sammy and Marty can run with this. Assuming Sammy will get a chance to be the starter until he’s not. Fortuitous that Jones wasn’t snapped up in waiters waivers

I heard that Pridham, knowing that Jones would be snapped up through waivers (because Leafs), structured the contract in a way that would financially punish a team for claiming him as a troll move. And his plan worked and no one claimed him.

If true, Pridham is more of a genius and more influential in helping the GM and coach execute their plans than I’ve given him credit for.

And I’ve given him a ton of credit.

I’m convinced that without Pridham, this team would not be as successful as they’ve been. And if you think they haven’t been successful enough anyway, I agree with you.

What I’m saying is it would be a disaster.

The best kind of employee or management in an organizational structure is one who understands the plan and direction of the decision makers and facilitates those plans and helps to make them possible, achievable. The plans and direction may be flawed, but someone like Pridham in any company is invaluable, because they really are the ones who make the plans achievable.

In this sense, it’s not relevant if the plan works or not, just that it’s able to be seen through.

I’m a Pridham fan boy, and I think it’s not fortuitous that jones cleared waivers, it was something that was specifically planned for and steps were made to purposefully discourage teams from signing him. Unbelievably great and thorough work.

Injury seemed almost a certainty with the way the dude had to stretch and make saves numerous times during the game. This team severely let him down with the way they played in he 1st and parts of the 2nd period. We hung him out to dry on so many occasions.

It all comes down to maturity, discipline and character and this team just simply doesn't have it. Teams like Boston, Florida and Vegas are great because their best players have that 'dog' in them that are proactively asserting themselves on the opposition. Our best players in Mitch, Auston, John and William will never, ever do that! They can react after they get slapped a bunch of times but these guys will never earn my respect until they become 'dogs'.

What you have is what you have - a core of very timid but highly talented players. They will get neutralized every single time by proactive physical and aggressive teams and we've seen that happen time and time again.

Months is better than a season ender

We're still going to get the kid back when the season gets decided

News could have been way worse than that

I agree with you, and I also heard someone like Kypreos saying the same thing about the team putting too much on Woll in that game.

Everything, including the timid play of the team, is imo a coaching issue.

If the coach wants the team to play more physical, it’s his job to either instruct them how, demand they do it, and hold them accountable when they don’t.

This issue is a Keefe issue

I wonder if it was a combination of plays.. but yeah what you said makes sense
It looked so ugly

Well i give you credit for mentioning woll

High ankle is bad, but not hip flexor/ acl/ mcl bad. Itll be 3 weeks easy, but the best possible bad news. Help us obi woll kenobi, you're our only hope

Given the possibilities of a severe knee injury, the ankle sprain is a much better outcome. Hopefully he recovers fully and is able to come back in late January. Time for our boys to carry the goalie for a bit.

Oh yes, and you have sources who are privy to the structures of player's contracts. Right.

And if there is some super-secret way to structure contracts to prevent waiver claims a) why didn't he do it while Kyle Dubious was GM?; b) why don't they do the same thing with all of their assets?; c) and how do other teams not know how to do the same thing?

Seriously, just stop and think your comments through for a minute.

Actually, contract structures are often pretty known to the world. Have you never been on CapFriendly.

This story is actually true.

Jones had a clause in his contract that it he was on an NHL roster on the day the season started he would get a $100K bonus.

This meant that the Lead could send him down and avoid the bonus. However, in order to send him down he had to go on waivers. Any team that selected him on waivers could only do so if they put him on their NHL roster to start the season. This would make his $875K contract, $975K.

This might only seem like $100K, but it is over 10% of the value of the contract and anyone considering claiming Jones on the eve of the season would likely be pretty tight up to the cap. That $100K could make a difference.

Making him less attractive for waivers is really the only reason I can see for this pretty unique bonus clause.

It’s really unfortunate that you came out so aggressively over this.

This clause was known at the time of the signing and was highly publicized and discussed as a waiver claim insurance policy.

"Of note with veteran #leafs goaltender Martin Jones currently on waivers: Any team putting in a successful claim will owe him a $100,000 bonus payment tomorrow.

The timing of that bonus was structured into the $875,000, one-year contract he signed in August." Johnston said.

When I get my my like button back, sometime in the middle of January (or longer, who knows what I’ll say in the future), I’ll owe you one!

(I made a joke about Perry and Bedard playing as a father/son duo - not sure if that’s okay to joke about now or not, but it wasn’t then)

If Samsonov suddenly is ok to play he should be sent down or cut. His head is so unstable you cannot trust him. Something smells fishy and it ain't fish.

How do we all feel about giving Hildeby some games?

If anything, the Leafs have quite a few intriguing goalie prospects. Woll was one of them only last year and we found out the kid can f***ing play

6’7 220 lbs, 1.89 GAA .925 sv% in the AHL

Our players are cursed with Ankle injuries

Marner 2019-2020 had a high ankle sprain

Rielly - 2019 -2020 had an ankle injury I think as well

Lilijgren this year and now Woll

Not only will the Leafs no longer be carried by a high end goalie, they're likely going to have to find a way to carry poor goaltending. Not sure they have it in them
Let’s be realistic.
after training camp, if you just selected the two best goalies waivers be Damned we probably would have went Sammy and Jones.
