It's not a bad thing but I think the Jays will have a 40 man roster crunch next season.
I don't see that many guys who need to be added for protection. Kevin Smith, Hiraldo. Maybe Pardinho, Danner, Maese, Jimenez, but I don't really expect those guys to be added. Obviously they've got a ton of guys coming off the 60 day DL in the next couple months but they've got a bunch of trash on it that's only there because of the injuries.
Heading into next year here are the guys on the 40 man or 60 Day DL now with team control into next year who should remain:
Borucki, Hatch, Kay, Luciano, Manoah, Mayza, Merrryweather, Murphy, Pearson, Romano, Ryu, Stripling, Thornton, Adams, Jansen, Kirk, McGuire, Moreno, Bichette, Biggio, Espinal, Guerrero Jr, Lopez, Tellez, Grichuk, Gurriel Jr, Hernandez, Palacios, Springer
That's 29 names leaving 11 spots. After adding Smith and Hiraldo that leaves 9 spots. Presumably you'd bring in 2 starting pitchers, a couple pen arms, and an infielder leaving 4 spots. You have to decide who's more important for those 4 spots, guys on the 40 now like Castro, Payamps, Bergen, Saucedo and Zeuch, protecing a Jimenez, Pardinho, Danner, or Maese, or bringing in more depth in free agency/trade.
Martin, and Groshans would need to be added once they get promoted, but I don't really expect that until part way through 2022 so it's not an immediate concern. Joey Murray is the only other decent prospect I can think of who might be close who you'd need to add to call them up
We might lose some fringe stuff but I'm not all that concerned.
edit: Samad Taylor needs to be added for protection too. He, like Smith were actually available this past rule 5 draft.
