I thought about this the other day. Were so deep at catcher, if both Moreno and Kirk rake(or maybe Jansen figures something out) how do you get them both more at bats in the majors. I like getting him some reps in the field since he played SS before we signed him and moved him to catcher.

Maybe he literally becomes Josh Donaldson who also came up as a catcher initially

Carlos Delgado was a catcher too. I believe Craig Biggio as well.

Imagine this lineup with Moreno at 3B and Kirk at catcher.

Semien 2B
Vladdy 1B
Bichette SS
Hernandez DH
Springer CF
Moreno 3B
Biggio/Grichuk RF
Gurriel LF
Kirk C

Atkins says he is waiting for trade later? lol when its too late. I only say this if he thinks they can win this year. My opinion says its going to be very tough to make it this year. We would have to go on an unbelievable run to hit 85 wins etc

He isn't going to say the club needs to make a trade in a week or so because that will put pressure on him to make a trade and likely jack up the asking price.

It's not a bad thing but I think the Jays will have a 40 man roster crunch next season.

I don't see that many guys who need to be added for protection. Kevin Smith, Hiraldo. Maybe Pardinho, Danner, Maese, Jimenez, but I don't really expect those guys to be added. Obviously they've got a ton of guys coming off the 60 day DL in the next couple months but they've got a bunch of trash on it that's only there because of the injuries.

Heading into next year here are the guys on the 40 man or 60 Day DL now with team control into next year who should remain:

Borucki, Hatch, Kay, Luciano, Manoah, Mayza, Merrryweather, Murphy, Pearson, Romano, Ryu, Stripling, Thornton, Adams, Jansen, Kirk, McGuire, Moreno, Bichette, Biggio, Espinal, Guerrero Jr, Lopez, Tellez, Grichuk, Gurriel Jr, Hernandez, Palacios, Springer

That's 29 names leaving 11 spots. After adding Smith and Hiraldo that leaves 9 spots. Presumably you'd bring in 2 starting pitchers, a couple pen arms, and an infielder leaving 4 spots. You have to decide who's more important for those 4 spots, guys on the 40 now like Castro, Payamps, Bergen, Saucedo and Zeuch, protecing a Jimenez, Pardinho, Danner, or Maese, or bringing in more depth in free agency/trade.

Martin, and Groshans would need to be added once they get promoted, but I don't really expect that until part way through 2022 so it's not an immediate concern. Joey Murray is the only other decent prospect I can think of who might be close who you'd need to add to call them up

We might lose some fringe stuff but I'm not all that concerned.

edit: Samad Taylor needs to be added for protection too. He, like Smith were actually available this past rule 5 draft.

Pretty much. It's GM talk. He isn't going to give anything away.

Moreno with a single, now a triple away from the cycle. He's playing 3rd base for the first time so hopefully he knows how to get there :sarcasm:

SWR 5 IP, 9 K's, 4 hits, 1 walk, 3 runs.

Line looks a lot worse than it was. Was perfect for the first 3 innings, every ball put in play in the 4th and 5th went for a hit, 2 of which were infield hit and a bunt for a base hit. 3 runs came off a 3 run double after those 2 weak hits and a walk.

Atkins: Blue Jays ‘focused on’ bullpen help in trade market - Sportsnet.ca

The recent struggles of the Blue Jays’ bullpen have made relief pitchers the team’s top priority in the trade market.

“It’s what we’re focused on,” GM Ross Atkins told reporters via Zoom Sunday morning. “We’ll continue working on that.”

While the Blue Jays have yet to make a major move on that front, Atkins said he expects there will be opportunities there. Recently-acquired reliever Jacob Barnes is expected to join the Blue Jays in Miami next week, but the search for further arms continues in discussions with rival teams.

Beyond the bullpen, the Blue Jays are also in the market for rotation upgrades as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. However, there will be lots of demand for those pitchers and at this point there don’t appear to be many of them available.

“We’ll be open to starting pitching as well,” Atkins said. “As you’re probably aware there’s not a ton of it on the market.”

Meanwhile, George Springer will continue his rehab assignment at triple-A Sunday and if all goes well, Atkins said the Blue Jays could look to add him to the big-league roster this coming week.

What's it going to take to acquire Rich Rod? Two more years of control. Not an elite reliever, but pretty good.

Taken him and Martin a little while to get used to the AA level. Especially Groshans, but hopefully they are on track now...

They're still fairly young for their level and Smith is hitting well as a mature prospect in AAA, so I expect both of them will be given a fairly long run in AA to develop. That might go out the window if injuries force the club's hand though.
